How do you feel about Yaoi & the misrepresentation of LGBT community in media?
Hi, I'd love to hear thoughts on this statement: "Hey fun fact! Fetishizing gay men is disgusting and if you’re a fujoshi/ yaoi fan you should stop and realize you’re not representing or helping mlm correctly by posting your “uwu trash sinful gaybies otp” and only harms the community". I know this kind of topic has already been asked again, & again. I don't mean to start a shit storm cuz I know that can get ugly quick but, Im often really unsure where I stand on this. I'd really appreciate hearing other viewpoints.

I found that: there are a lot of yaoi and BL that are written by women. Back in the day, in Japan, this was considered to be a safe way for women to express their sexuality. as a person of the lgbt community yaoi or yuri can never be a good representation of gay men or lesbian women because in most yaoi and yuri the mc has either sexual harassed the mc once or practically raped their partner and most of these fan girls love to fetish gay people so we good i mean not all yaoi is bad but yall need fix it. 1 reply
It's just porn and most of the time not made to be taken seriously or to represent actual gay people. I think it's fine as long as you can clearly separate it from real life and realize that it isn't realistic and RESPECT REAL LIFE LGBT+ PEOPLE AS PEOPLE. There's worse things going on than teen girls reading yaoi... I've yet to find any actual evidence that tumblr teens and their gay otps are actual harming anyone but other tumblr teens.

In my opinion, it's not that it's written by women for women, but rather because of the very fact that it's written for entertainment purposes, and not to reflect reality that it's incredibly unrealistic. Japanese people make manga for Japanese people to read, and yet we still get unrealistic school-life harems filled with yanderes, extreme tsunder...... reply
The term "fujoshi" has, inadvertently, become synonymous with those who fetishize gay men. The girls who will think of two real life men and imagine them in situations like their favorite yaois and whatnot or randomly ship two men (REAL LIFE men) because they think it'd be hot (not because there's actual a genuine relationship between the two men)....... 1 reply
