Anyone else just not as interested in new manga/shows/etc as you get older?
Does anyone feel that "new bad, old good" boomer mentality get to em sometimes? XP Like I've read hundreds of BL for example and saw hundreds of shows, played tons of video games - and it's like all the old stuff sticks out way more. Almost everything current is already becoming tired or is continuing off stuff started like a decade ago. I thought to kinda freshen things up, I'm getting into all the old stuff I hadn't touched yet, and it's been really interesting. Also I like having a completed manga or an almost finished show to kinda go through at my leisure that I don't have to wait a decade for.
What do you guys think? I'm sure I'm not the only one but I gotta find my fellow boomers (not literal btw, I'm not quite* that old). OR anyone wanna try that, check out the much older stuff?
all generations of manga/games/movies/music etc. have good and bad things to offer, and while we might enjoy more things from a certain generation than others, we also just tend to look back at older generations with rose colored glasses.
the "rosy retrospection" cognitive bias reply
Personally I never really have that type of mentality, simply due to the fact that I just do some looking and find a good manga, manhwa or manhua no matter how old it is. But, I would get why some people might have that mentality due to a lot of mangakas, manhwagas etc wanting to make quick money by using in overused troupes in their works. reply
Partly, yes.
We are bound to be biased towards nostalgia. That's part of it. The charm of what you know is unbeatable.
Then there obv are things in the world and media that are developing in the wrong direction.
Video games are very similar nowadays cause companies don't wanna take risks, everything has to be open world and microtransactions.

If I'm being completely honest I'm still just as obsessed as I was when I first started reading/watching { manga }, the same can be said about when I first started watching anime. I always watch animes that are much older than me and I love them, and I watch newer animes as well. The same can be said about mangas & shows. I love both older and newe...... 1 reply
No, I always had problems to reread and rewatch older stuff since it seemed like a waste of time. I relaized that that doesn't have to be the case so I try to not only pay attention to newer stuff 1 reply

Sht gets overused and genres become oversaturated. Especially after reading the rlly good ones that make you feel empty afterwards and almost nothing else can top them... yeah other mangas/manhwas from then on become boring.
Look at the villainess genre that was popularized in 2020. The good and memorable ones that I can think was created around ...... 1 reply
In my case, I haven't been watching or reading as much as I used to because I am now in college and I don't have the time I had when I was in high school last year. reply
