Ever read something and get appalled by the lack of reading comprehension readers have
Like, have you ever been frustrated enough to personally go through the screen and send them back to middle school?? I don't know how some people COMPLETELY ignore a story's nuances and a characters' motivations and mischaracterize them. It's genuinely so frustrating to see when a well written flawed character just gets called something shallow like an 'asshole' as the readers refuse to see the reason why those twisted feelings and experiences led to them making those decisions. You can hate someone for their actions but these readers basically lack enough reading comprehension and moral compass to not understand that not every character is designed to be the hot bod perfect green forest perfect family perfect past perfect life MLs/FLs they see in 90% of stories.
People cry out "We need more character depth nowadays! " Yet can't even handle a flawed character who made bad decisions because of their own humane irrationality.
I agree but there are also characters who are really js assholes (I won't name them bc their fandoms rlly suck). Some authors try rlly hard to give their characters depth and personality but so many people only skim through the story, they don't take time to think before commenting. reply
YES.
Sometimes I wonder if they lack media literacy, horrible with interpretations, stupid, or all of the above (not to say I'm superior in any way). And it's even more annoying when something so delusive gets thrown around as if it's factual thing.
I've seen a hefty amount of people 'yearn' for morally grey characters or something of that sor...... 1 reply
Almost all of the popular BLs with a rapist or abusive ML have no character depth at all, and if they do, it’s so shallow that it doesn’t justify their actions in any way. Their dickriders will somehow find a way to make it look like their precious ml is a victim or something 1 reply
Worst part is how this can apply with how real people are judged, the lack of empathy and humanity is baffling, and it’s incredible in all the wrong ways how common this is.
Example; you cannot go in online or irl spaces when the topic at hand is about SA or abuse victims without seeing victim blaming, this myth of the “perfect victim” is no...... reply
Exactly how I feel when someone thinks Denji from csm is "just a pervert" meanwhile he's literally a teenager that was groomed, SA'd and brutalized multiple times. He's obviously suffering from hypersexuality and the story doesn't frame it as a good thing, I genuinely believe some ppl just call him a shallow character to ragebait because there is n...... 1 reply
It's like this in every story and their fandom honestly, and its incredibly sad . A lot of people just read bc they wanna get away from reality. And having a simple and obvious story seems perfect, bc if the author is spoon feeding you every detail so there's no need for you to think about every single thing to deeply. What's also shitty when peop...... reply
I think some people really need to read more books to practice their reading comprehension. It’s frustrating when these people demand muti-dimensional characters, those who possess complexity and nuisance. But when they finally given one, they cant handle him/her. I notice that some readers cannot handle complex, morally ambiguous characters and ...... 1 reply
For me, it's just the fact that readers don't realize that the majority of male leads are actually aggressive and mean people just because they happen to be nice to the main character doesn't mean anything. Additionally, another thing about when it comes to comprehension is that it also depends on the reader themselves. So for example the way are w...... reply
