Honestly I think its time they pack up the redemption arcs...like actually....this isn't me complaining about rape in bl cuz atp I don't gaf I just try to ignore them when they pop up my feed....I think im just becoming desensitized to it all...I think they should just let shitty characters be shitty characters..and like just let them face the consequences of their actions....not everyone deserves a second chance and that's okay...im just sick and tired of the 30+ chp montage of the shitty childhood and terrible parents bullshit

That’s because authors often glorify the abuser x victim trope. That “redemption” angle just romanticizes trauma, the abuser isn’t held accountable, and the victim’s pain is reduced to a plot device to make the abuser look “tragic.”

Funny thing is those you mentioned aren't even redemption arcs, they're just arcs to excuse (not even explain) why them MLs act like a bitch. Redemption is one of my favourite genres. Since humans are flowed I think it can be used to show growth of any characters. But the "Redemption" in these yaois are not what it actually is, or at least that's what I think. If the semes in these stories realizes the gravity of what they did to the victim and they themselves go to maybe police to repor...... reply
