I have an upcoming debate and the topic is so basic: Abolishment of homework
My stance is disagree (meaning I support having homework) and I just realized that there's so many things they can counter me with so please holy keyboard warriors of mangago help a poor student out PLS GIVE ME IDEAS I CAN USE TO DEFEND MY CAUSE
Hi law student here!! So when I debate anything, first thing I do is research the opposing side, and write down all major points. Then I research all counter arguments and write around that. This way you know what's going to be said against and what can be said in your defense.

Hiii Law Student hereee, I think you should first address the reason why homework exists and how now in modern times, the effects of homework towards students. Cite examples like articles and personal accounts. That makes your argument strong.

anticipate counterarguments by doing research on what the opposing side claims. it's better to come up with possible responses, it's less hassle for both parties as well. frame ur stance as something reasonable and balanced. I will counter and agree. Homework should be abolished.
1. It can create excessive stress. Students already attend school 6-8 hours of the day, even more so overseas like in S.Korea, averaging 6-12 hours a day, and you know the suicide rate there is abominable. ok so my pro homework take is throughout the whole school day i’m in airplane mode. once i get home i’m a whole new person and have more mental clarity, so doing homework helps me make sure i actually understand whatever i was supposed to learn at school. reply
The biggest argument for me, going into teaching, even though the invention of standarized tests were used at the elementary level for shallow assessment, homework is invaluable a practice. Yes, simply practice. Teaching isn't a parasocial relationship and a mentor's guidance is meant to lead you to understand and excercise the concepts.

Essentially it also provides a way revise which otherwise wouldn't do if we generalise the mindset if those going to school. It also helps keep info in memory, and for some subjects, help learning new info that's meant to help in class and exams which the teacher may not have been able to cover in the class due to various reasons. 1. You don't get time to self study! Which is the MOST IMP part of your studies.
2. Mostly the homework given is bascially shit like copying things from one book to one copy. I mean in our country it happens. The student doesn't learn anything. There's no ACTIVE learning.
