Do you guys think the stories you read have affected the way you approach relationships?
Whenever there is rape or sa in a comic, a decent amount of readers gloss over it just because it's fictional and don't actually support rape or whatever. But like if you read a lot of comics, especially if you began at a young age, wouldn't it affect your thinking in someway. So much rape, assault, and abuse is romanticized in a lot of comics that it definitely reaches more vulnerable people. For example, me. When I was about 11 or 12, i read a lot of manhuas on webcomics. Most of these manhuas however featured implied abuse and rape that I thought was okay because he loved her or whatever( i.e: embrace your shadow(?)). I even wanted to be in a relationship with a "bad boy" type. I've never really been in a relationship, but I was sa'd as a kid(like 7) and I thought I was a bad person because of that(belived my period was a punishment from god). I had weird relationships with some guys growing up and just accepted it, but now I've definitely changed the way I approach potential romantic relationships. Now as a more mature teenager, I feel disgusted to even read—or watch—things like that. Whenever a main lover interest rapes or abuses i character i sort of lose interest(that one comic with zhenya-forgot the name). This doesn't happen with every comic cuz I still try to give the author a chance to redeem a character. But as you get older and more developed, it becomes harder for people to truly change—especially without therapy.
First and foremost, there’s a reason why rated R stores are meant to be read by older people and not kids.
I was also SA’d as a kid, and it definitely shaped the rest of my life, but I also got into reading BL as an older teen (17-18), so even though at that age I was nowhere near being 100% developed, at least I was already in the age rang...... reply
no, because I don't have any experience with intimate relationships. (that's up to my own orientation though)
those stories (and fiction in general) aren't likely to have a direct effect on what people do in the form of imitation, especially when they're not children anymore. but they do influence how people think and talk about stuff and how they ...... reply
I’ve read many stories over the years who included rape/sa topics (Wattpad/ mangas/manhwa..) and I started reading those around the same age as you mentioned, but in my case it never affected me in any way (well I did felt bad for the victim). I never thought that being in a toxic relationship would be a good thing even though I was reading thing...... reply
I completely separate fictional and real stuff. Like I separate yaoi/bl with homosexual relationships because calling a gay couple “yaoi!!” is weird. I’m pretty sure that’s the case for most people or atleast I’d hope so. 1 reply
i think yes it has impacted my relationships but not in the way that you might think mayhaps.
having seen so much dead dove do not eat content (for lack of a better way to refer to such content) and people who are freaky in more or less taboo ways, i have come to see how a lot of the kinks or general weird shit that people are into isn't because ...... reply
