Why are people getting mad at that one girl on tt for saying it’s bad to openly admit you’re a minor reading explicit content? What do you guys think? Because I genuinely don't get why people were mad at that take. I don't even like the creator, but I feel like she was right about not openly admitting you're a minor reading explicit yaoi/NSFW content. It's not about shaming kids for being curious, it's just that the internet is full of weird adults, and publicly saying that can make you an easier target. Am I missing something?
it's just a kind of weird thing to focus on, and feels like we're saying that if you don't share you are "safer", which isn't the case at all (ik OP probably isn't saying that, but they're making that dichotomy). instead of focusing on what pedos actually target, we're making up make-believe risks off of behavior of victims and forcefully dragging it to something else.
there are key identifiers of things we know pedos target, NSFW toggle is not one of them. the issue with NSFW has never been whether or not you identify with reading it, but that the environment in of itself is bad. if that makes sense.
it's not wrong per-se... it's just... why are you targetting that.
it's sort of the same thing as people saying "don't tell others you are a minor"
that isn't going to do anything.
you shouldn't be making rules for minors on what they should and shouldn't do on the internet, that's a ridiculously inefficient way to handle this problem. the internet isn't responsible for your kids, and kids aren't responsible for their safety. it comes from a nice place, but it's horrendously just... i can make a 100 line rulebook of things you should avoid saying.
it's not going to help the problem if more and more kid are on tiktok, on phones, on social media, talking to adults with no supervision.
I actually don't think we're that far apart. I completely agree that predators are the problem, and nothing a minor does makes them responsible for being targeted.
I just think it's still reasonable to encourage minors not to publicly announce things like "I'm a minor and I read nswf," because there are adults online who specifically look for minors to interact with. It's not about saying that behavior causes grooming or that staying quiet guarantees safety, it just means you're sharing less personal information with strangers.
To me, it's similar to other internet safety advice. We tell people not to post personal details online, not because they'd be at fault if someone misused that information, but because there are people who do. (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜

imma be real im a bit tired now to address everything but i agree (๑•ㅂ•)و✧ i feel like the post itself isn't wrong or anything, maybe there is a little bit of "can't u spread awareness of better ways to solve things", but that's kind of nitpicky and annoying. it's exactly as you said Σ( ̄□ ̄||)
and in these circumstances you can totally get groomed. it’s not good announcing you’re a minor, it really isn’t. people will think you’re vulnerable and will try to manipulate u. i don’t even think minors should interact in these communities at all. i started reading bl when i was in middle school and goddamn u interact with the weirdest adults on here. we cant forbid kids and teens to read porn or even watch it, but let’s at least not interact with them .
Yeah exactly, I don’t know why so many people don’t get that. It’s especially dangerous on here considering the amount of people who openly admit they’re predators. Ive seen minors post about how they like yaoi and there’s adults interacting with the post asking to be moots or friends.
I mean, morally speaking it's uncomfortable to have minors around explicit material, but in reality a lot of BL readers started reading explicit content at a young age (I personally started at 13), and they grew up...fine? (relatively speaking) So maybe thats it
Yeah, I started reading it around 13 too, so I definitely get that it's not uncommon. My point wasn't that minors are bad people for being curious or that it never happens. I was talking about publicly announcing that you're a minor while engaging with explicit content. There are a lot of weird adults online, and sharing that kind of information can make you more visible to people with bad intentions. It was more of a safety point than a moral judgment if you get what I mean (=・ω・=)
