how can someone be actively gay but remains catholic?
I'm just confused. I mean, sure, not all Catholics follow every teaching of the Church (contraceptives, masturbation, premarital sex, divorce) but I think being gay and those examples are different. Those are behaviors or acts, whereas being gay is your identity.
Don't you think it's a massive contradiction? They are basically saying it's wrong to act on your natural inclination. I don't personally understand how LGBT Catholics can stand by the Church and wait for it to change, especially when there are other denominations that are much more inclusive.
I think you're overlooking the attachment people have to their faith. For many, it feels like they're not only abandoning their beliefs, but also their culture, their family. Few believers are actually going to convert just because another branch of their religion it's more inclusive to their identity.
I don't know any catholics, but I've dated a...... 1 reply

Lowkey any Queer folk in Abrahamic religious gotta hide it or not believe 100% in the rules. Cuz as someone whos raised catholic never have they ever talked about gay people. So it mostly depends on the church you go to or how much of it you believe in. The bible itself only had one line but yk its not really that significant. Any homophobic cathol...... 1 reply
Being gay is not sin in the Catholic church. They're against homosexual acts just like how they're against using contraceptives etc those you mentioned. So the comparison still stands. Most catholics *ehem ehem* don't 100% follow the church. I think they have this term "cafeteria catholic". So it's perfectly fine, being gay and catholic, not that d...... 1 reply
better question, how can someone be actively religious when a good chunk of the bible is proven to be bullshit?
not trying to make fun of religious people, but like, gay people being catholic is lwk the lesser confusing aspects of this craft. reply
Bisexual Catholic here. Currently dating a lesbian. I’ve stopped going to church for many years now since all I do is to sinned.
I can’t exactly abandon my religion not that I’m religious myself. My town parish is very much accepting towards the LGBTQ community tho. reply
Hello i'm an example of a gay person who is a christian, not catholic (even though many people around me, both family and friends, belong to that faith since it’s the dominant religion in my country), but something worse: an adventist!!!!!

Catholics don't turn away people for their gender identity??? Again, being gay is your identity. They don't actually turn you away for that. Their official stance on it is a no-no for the sexual intercourse part--so i guess the asexual/practicing ascetic gays are okay--but as people have said before it's an individual and personal relationship with...... reply
I'm a bisexual Catholic, though I don't really practice my religion. (let's be honest at all) Religion (especially Catholicism) plays a huge part in my culture. I still pray for the well-being of my family, but I don't push my beliefs onto anyone or even tell people I'm Catholic. I just kind of just there w religion.(The last time I went to church ...... reply
Your post you say you can't understand it, well, you don't need too LOL It is up to the individual to decide their forward movement about their identity, etc. and the religion they might choose. I don't think anyone can give a 'this is exactly why' answer, there are definitely many varying factors involved per individual person I would think.
