Genuinely why are self harm victims so disrespected by people
I've noticed this alot, especially people making memes about how self harm victims in discord used to seek attention like it's supposed to be funny. They always make them out to be creepy and crazy people who cut themselves for fun.... Everyone is okay with trauma until it's self harm like so many people shame us for having scars and it's so disrespectful tbh.
I personally had a really bad experience with a S/H victim that WOULD use his wounds to threaten me into doing what he wanted. does this mean I should view other victims this way? of course not. I understand that it's hard to overcome these experiences, maybe I understand that more than most people because I came in contact with it first-hand, but ...... 2 reply
and even when they’re completely healed, people still find something to say about them. i feel ashamed when i have to wear shorts, because i know people will stare at my thighs and think im mentally crazy.

I saw a video of a girl doing gym videos and she happened to have old SH scars and the comments were absolutely horrible (seeking attention, crazy, calling her weak). It’s so gross and completely thoughtless, twitter maybe a hellscape but instagram reels are not far behind

Cause people are shitty lol, I get turned off by those people who make fun of ppl for getting triggers and who are actually mentally ill in discord. People can't seem to realise the fact that some people's lives are so bad their only support system comes online. Y'all, I live in the Bible Belt and work in retail and I cannot tell you the number of times weirdo religious people have asked me if they can pray for me and then proceed to physically hold my arm without asking for permission. It’s so so so STRANGE and leaves me utterly baffled and incredibly embarrassed every time it’s happened. reply
I have scars on my face that's the most painful thing ever I always get reminded of that by people and the way they stare at it. I regret doing that to my face but I have to carry the scars for the rest of my life reply
Sadly, education on this topic is deficient. It is unfortunately considered a taboo subject. there is a stigma surrounding self harm, with ppl who are uninformed considering it an act of “manipulation” or “attention-seeking,” even some mental health professionals.
