Would you still like something if it has problematic themes just for the sake of historical accuracy? Like minor x adult and stuff like that? I do believe accuracy is necessary but I got really pissed when I was talking about this to a friend and he mentioned literary works shouldn't be confined to modern standards, but it seems like an excuse for some authors to be creepy, no? We were talking about violet evergarden and the whole teenager x a guy in his twenties is really weird but he said that it's historically accurate but I argued that it still isn't romantic when a teenager WILL get trauma from it but he just said it was normal back then..... What are your thoughts on this?
For Violet Evergarden i think the whole accuracy argument is kind of dumb it’s a fantasy story set in a fictional world with its own fictional time period and country so there’s no real reason it has to follow historical age norms especially when those age differences aren’t being used to say anything meaningful about the setting or its socie...... reply

i promise u none of those weirdos preaching about historical accuracy actually gives a flying fuck about historical accuracy. they're ok with consuming content with child x adult "romantic" relationships, and even excuse it, and only use historical accuracy as a guise. they don't care about...... reply
it's all in the purpose and execution. what is it doing in contemporary media, how is it shown, and why is it a focus? we shouldn't overlook the problems and issues of the past, but it's also worth scrutinizing how and why things are presented to contemporary audiences.

OMG it pissed me off that this happened. Violet Evergarden was a good anime, but they didn't need to do the Gilbert thing at all. Like why..the minor x adult pairing was completely unnecessary. no, i dont gaf if ur shit is historically accurate if it's "fiction". like, sure, if u wanna write a biography on the life of some person then go ahead ofc u gotta mention whatever happened but since it's fiction, why would I want problematic stuff in the fiction which (i am assuming) is going to be romance? who's enjoying THAT? #judging_hard reply

historical accuracy arguments for fictional works are kinda weird bc you personally have never lived during that time and don't know how exactly people felt about certain things. The sample of people from the past whose opinions you'll ever know is too small.
