TW: death, inherited trauma, obsession, disturbing and uncomfortable imagery and descriptions, psychological horror and much more.
the game series deliberately tells its story out of order, so I'm going to recreate it in an organised manner, including spoilers for basically everything, so if you want to play thr game, I really suggest you dont read this thing because the story is SO SO SO lore heavy, unless you dont mind spoilers. I will also include fan art of the game because there's like 10 ppl who know of it :/
● so what actually is Rusty Lake?
The way the developers describe rusty lake is that it's surreal world whose games are interconnected through characters, memories, cubes, corrupted souls, and the lake itself.
The lake is almost like a metaphysical ecosystem, humans live, they die, but the thing that stays is not their bodies, not their souls, but their memories, and those memories turn into cubes !
These cubes can be manipulated, consumed, preserved and used to influence reality. The idea here is that some of these people are essentially corrupted, their cubes are manifestations of their relationship with death, memory, guilt, or the lake that become distorted.
The game basically introduces the question: What happens to a person's psyche when death stops being the end ?

● There's three main families in the story, thus being:
1. The Elianders: this lineage is associated with paradise and alchemy, all while containing ritual sacrifices and being the origin of the lakes supernatural powers
2. The vanderbooms: these guys...are a lot. They're associated with life & desth, reproduction and ressuraction, they have a whole ass plot related to them and the shit they did (especially one interesting individual.)
3. The vandameer: this isn't a family but a character, dale vandameer, hes a detective who gets sucked into this whole thing and is interested in its machinery. In a way, He's our prospective and desire to understand this location.

● where its all started: Caroline eliander.
Jackob eliander, a man who returned to his family's island after the news of his mother's death, found out that the island was struck with the ten plagues. They thought it was all a punishment for something they've done.
But ! It was all Caroline. Caroline was experimenting with alchemy and the possibility of immortality and the elixir of life. This is the building stone of the story, because from now, a pattern appears, supernatural powers are almost always ALWAYS exploited.

To be continued...
