The not so sudden popularity of rape in bl

I see a lot of people especially on here ask why popular or new yaoi stories all include rape or some sort of abuse as a plot point, but its not really a new thing and has been around since the genre started. People have this false idea that it suddenly became popular now bc these kind of stories are marketed and pushed way more now by digital comics publishing companies like lenzhin to attract consumers - if a story contains violence , it is in our human nature to be curious about it. If these companies and authors see theres a demand they will pump out even more of such stories with no substance - and i am not talking ab stories whos purpose is to be sexually gratyfing , these ones dont take themselfs seriously either way - but ones who do but still fall into using shock value as a way to attract consumers. Its an easy and cheap way to make money but it also creates a false narrative for readers that these stories are something progressive that go againts the status quo by framing abuse but specifically sexual abuse as erotic - but this is how it always has been in society. Thats why I dont think these stories will normalize rape - it has been normal for as long as humanity exsisted but will further push the dangerous rethoric and desensitize people. These stories just feed the ego of people who have superiority complexes by making them think of themselfs as intellectuals - when in truth theres nothing in value in such media. That being said I wish we got actual good psychological stories or just stories who dont use rape as a catalyst for the character redemption or ignore the trauma the victim goes through and showcases how it can affect the said character life/personality. This is a nuanced topic and if something isnt clear i can elaborate :)
