I'm cool with niche stuff (ex. Death Grips) but the main thing I look for are v i b e s. Even if they're gag songs.
I usually veer towards lofi, hiphop/rap, RnB, indie, progressive metal, ambience, synthwave, post-rock, post-metal, trap, and experimental that includes elements from any of the mentioned or anything else.
I don't know if it will be to your taste, but if you haven't checked them yet, The Beatles (especially stuff after 1965, starting with Rubber Soul and so on), because they are still relevant for a reason lol
