I just recently told my friend something that was possible TMI so I can get pointers for it and they started to make a big deal out of it saying things like "there’s just some things I should keep to myself" and "why did I need to know this" I'm honestly wishing I could jump back in time and stop myself from even saying anything.

It's a lesson learned the hard way. It's not about being harmfully deceptive, it's about keeping your private feelings your own. You aren't obligated to share everything, especially if it's something intimate that doesn't really concern anyone else.
