Well, she should've gone to therapy, and I don't suggest that too often (head shrinkers, urgh). He proposes, but she declines because her love is deadly, so after a 'see ya' fuck they part. He's nice, but he also thinks that he's a little unlovable, so he walks away, hurt over another rejection. She winds up preggers, rushes to find him and selfishly demands he marry her for the baby. They slowly work through their issues. He's sweet, she's...ugh.
1) A prince of an island nation visits...Jefferson, Texas(!?) (I mean, it's a nice place and all, but kind of a peculiar location for a royal to take in as a 'learning exchange' as there's only about 3,000 people living there, but okay. Security has it easier I guess.) Anywho, there he meets a school counselor, they sight see, he pops her cherry, she gets preggers, they marry for appearances, then can't live without each other. It's sweet in an odd way.
2) She a future Queen with problems, one of which is her Prince Consort. She introspects A LOT; he does his duty, but at an emotional distance because: 'Love hurts, love scars. Love wounds and marks any heart.' (He's) 'Not tough or strong enough to take a lot of pain... Ooh, ooh love hurts' - Nazareth (paraphrased). So back and forth and back and forth until: I wuv you, my queen to be. More action, but less substance than the first... Still quasi-cute.(?)
The setup is cute and all, but there are some things that niggle. The dad should've known what kind his ex-wife was and taken his kids with him. And, hey, I love my mother, but I've no qualms about telling her to shut up, piss off and make do with what she already has. This girl will stand up to everyone but her mother, it's sad. Man's cute, though, and so sweet and he never tried to take advantage.
Overall premise is trope-ishly cute: 'Cinderella' sans mutilations, though there are elements that seemed almost derogatory. Him being a Sheikh appeared to be the exoticism/fetishism of foreigners/cultures, plus her puritanical father...Battle Religion? I mean, man could've been Highlordwhatsit and it would've been the same. I can't fault her Mother...It's a 'you have to be there' scenario.
Comedic arrogance at it's finest(?) She's a hardworking, downtrodden girl who is under investigation for her worthiness. The investigator is a lonely, abandonment issue riddle man who is irresistibly drawn to her. They fight, fuck, get preggers, fight, fuck and fight sum'more, and FINALLY set things straight. Seems grandpa already knew they would spark a bush fire and I'm not sure what to make of the aunt. The dog is cute.
Not bad. Quite sweet, actually. Him the Arab version of a Spartan (hmm, Spartans, my favorite historical mens-es) and her with her fiery temper and bags of trauma (didn't take long for her to get over it, though). They form a ceremonial marriage for the sake of the once and future king (haha) and end up changing and falling for each other in the process.
This is a strong woman AND her strong kid. The man is wishy-washy and 'nookin for nub in all the wong pwaces', but she and her kid are rather inspirational. He's angry with his greedy hussy of a mother for dying before he could give her the digit salute, but loved his step-mother and was confused because of it. The best part of this tale, is the kid and his 'Pervy Old Man' alarm, so deadpan it was hilarious.
Setting aside, look individually at individuals. Personality wise, they're fine; they communicate properly, there's work to be done and they don't interfere too much in each others' work. They both have traumatic issues, while he begins working through his, she lingers in hers, then LUST and it's a landslide. Overall: Not bad/not great. Setting: Not wholly irrelevant, but contributes little; could be anyone/anywhere. (I like the clothes.)
All in all, kinda cute. I mean, one should not hold great expectations whilst reading lonely housewife fodder, thus, having little confidence of finding the mother-lode in pyrite, this wasn't bad. Navigating between Scylla and Charybdis, he chooses to be an ass and she, in desperate need, has to go along for the ride. They get to know one another, fall for each other, but neither want to be the first to break the deal.
