Holy truth nuke. I'm also so tired of seeing rape/sexual assault scenes... it literally adds nothing to the story 95% of the time (unless it adds social commentary on how it affects victims or something but most of the time it doesn't). Look at how many good stories there are that don't have it.
It's so tiring trying to filter through and find stories with actual healthy relationships (I hate the ones with a billion misunderstandings that never get resolved because they won't communicate either). I don't mind some angst but some of these plots are so... and I'd rather see BOTH people in the couple enjoying themselves, not when it looks like one is being coerced most of the time. I've read so many of these in the past, but now I'm kind of over it tbh
EXACTLY!!!!!
It worries me because I used to read shit like as a kid and I thought it was completely normal, it wasn't until I got some sense that I realised how stuff like this can warp your perception of sex as a young child. But when you point that out all ppl have to say abt it is "it's just fiction" or "if you don't like it then don't read it" completely ignoring the fact that fiction can effect your view on reality.
Yuuuppp!!! Ive been on yaoi since I was a kid and the normalization of stalker behavior completely warped my perception of love and romance and to this day I dont feel secure in a relationship unless the person is like borderline obsessive and it's gotten me into shit situations. It absolutely affects how you think!! Dont like dont read is just deflection
It also bugs the hell out of me when they have sex immediately after the incident as well instead of actually digesting what had just happened to them. I remember reading something of similar concept except instead of getting down, they both just sat in the same room in a comforting silence, neither really knowing what to say or do. It's sad that literally writing about two characters sitting in silence has better writing than a majority of these "romances"
Exactly, tho I haven't personally gone through something like that, I can imagine that that would be a really traumatizing thing to go through so for them to basically brush past it after it happens like it was nothing is so.....
This is also why omegaverse, guidverse or any kind of verse where sex is the main plot point, kinda bothers me because it just seems to me like a way to give the characters an excuse to rape someone by basically blaming it on "pheromones" or something along those lines and it's oftentimes just repackaged misogyny
There are so many parellels with misogyny/ pushed heteronormativity in things like omegaverse
Never really liked omegaverse unless it was alpha x alpha (or beta) because personally, it's much more appealing when characters fall in love despite it not being what's considered the norm, despite the difficulties or differences.
Things like pheromones or natural attraction just feel so bland and lazy
I've read a good amount of omegaverse, but honestly the emphasis on the fact that omegas are basically useless during their heat (aka period) and essentially only exist to attract "mates" for reproduction is just crazy misogynistic projection to me. Or how they force a character into heat at a random time in the worst situation and then get assaulted either by a random character or the ML.
Don't get me wrong, not all of it is bad, but holy shit... some of it is... well it was a choice. If it's used in a way to show how modern day societal views and discrimination on women can affect others, then maybe it's not so bad. But how many times do we see a strong omega? They are always portrayed as frail, weak, and basically a slave to their instincts which feels so weird.
These two are my holy grails of omegaverse tho and even they aren't perfect:

It's actually one if the worst, I hate it so much. Like I would rather see some basic trope of meeting in class, at work, or on the train/bus 1000 times over those kind of scenes.
Not to mention that the amount of it in many series is kind of crazy?? Like do they think this kind of stuff happens a lot in real life... and do they seriously think that after being assaulted that the person is going to want to have sex with the person who "saved" them?? It seriously shows how romanticized it is in media and it's quite disappointing
Omegaverse was originally used for erotica (fanfic) fantasy but started getting more progression over the years although it still, heavily, keeps it initial concept as a smut fantasy. It's still kinda weird to me as a whole for many reasons because of things like mpreg. I have like, multiple views on that topic specifically, especially because on one side if you zoom out of all that it's just a large scale view of a patriarchal mindset of society,.. but in a homosexual smut fic. (of all things)
It's interesting to say the least but it's also a really weird topic of choice because you could literally write about such things in almost any genre and make a good point but out of all things they choose poorly written gay smut . Idk man
I feel like these things have potential in their own rights (on paper) but it's kind of hard for the authors to prove any point they're trying to make when even they themselves pushes their own "born to breed" narrative onto their characters for erotica purposes. (forced heats for smut etc).
I don't think I was able to like, process all my thoughts within just one comment but yeah. Hopefully this made sense and I'm not crazy

I swear the amount of times I read a BL and the smutt scenes are just the bottom repeatedly begging the top to slow down or stop is ridiculous.
And the birds in the comments not noticing how rapey that shit is makes me feel like I'm the crazy one for noticing that shit.
I mean some of these smutt scenes look borderline violent at times and bitches will be in the comments like "that was so hot" no TF it wasn't?!?!
Idk man, am I crazy? or does it seem like these authors don't know what consensual sex is?
