Question?

The tea is here June 6, 2026 4:31 am

Does anyone notice how more and more authors who write BL are adding rape into their stories. I just started back reading and all the stories I want to read has rape. I found a cute story to read and the author added rape into the storyline when it could progress without rape.

It’s kinda crazy and I have no one to talk about this with ┗( T﹏T )┛

That makes me so mad as well. I be trying to skip em, but they will go on for at less three chapters

Yeahh, I hate it when scenes like that show up in my cute stories. (╥﹏╥)

A lot of the time it feels really out of character for the ML, and the story could’ve progressed just fine without it.

That said, this has been around for as long as BL has been around, so it’s definitely not a recent thing. It’s actually pretty common. I think one of the biggest reasons is that, in sexual stories in general (not just BL), a lot of authors like more forceful, dominant MLs. You see the same thing in dark romance all the time. (ᵕ—ᴗ—)

A lot of people are into power dynamics, loss-of-control fantasies, and stuff like that, so those themes end up making their way into fiction too.

I really don’t enjoy seeing the MC go through that, so I usually end up dropping the story. Σ( ̄□ ̄||)

Yeah it been pretty common that it’s pretty normal for no one to bat an eye when a story has rape. It’s so normalized in the BL community

it's more like if you're getting (back) into bl now, the frequency of rape in stories is going back to what was the norm several years back, like if you got into bl before like...2016. rape is unfortunately considered a genre mainstay and is used as an easy plot and sex scene catalyst when creators are short on time, ideas (and creativity) while also being appealing to some people as a kink :/. I'd say there was a lull for a couple of years where it felt like more stories came out without gratuitous rape/assault scenes and were doing more oddball or quirky dynamics and plots and now things are returning to form.
the trend wouldn't be as obnoxious if it felt like there were also many stories that don't include rape coming out, but alas. the options are apparently either gratuitous rape and shallowly done power-tripping dynamics if you want some semblance of conflict/grit and smut in a story, or simple fluff. wet sand was able to do grit and conflict without rape between the mains while including smut, so surely it can be done. alternatively, if there must be rape/assault, it'd be great for the story to really engage with it seriously and consequentially, like in songhyel's works.

Exactly.. scammed and rammed, cherry blossoms after winter, between the lines, kill me if you can.. these were really good. But one SA scene is all it takes to ruin the whole thing. I don't know why they're doing this, maybe bc it sells bc most readers only read yaoi slop these days it's really sad

once i skipped two FULL chapters and the scene was still going on. very unnecessary and uncomfortable plot device and i hate when people say that “it’s real life tho” but you can literally imply that an assault occurred and the readers will get the gist

Honestly that's actually normal. There's a reason why fujoshi means "rotten woman". If were a manga reader those sa is pretty common. Readers know plots aren't that deep(aka no attachements). The main agenda is to read two hot men, how they do it? The hotter the better. So yeah
