Trauma cycles are real and that's what makes them terrifying, because it victimizes people and turns them into monsters. The initial trauma in no way mitigates or justifies the subsequent infliction of further trauma on others, and they, very sadly and tragically, turn themselves into monsters through their actions. That's how people actually work.
