This is great, it gives (V)ergil his much needed development. At first he saw Nero as a tool, even though he suspected they were related and humans as lesser being but slowly he stars facing his fears and realizing why he feels that way.
In humans, he saw his own weakness and in Nero he saw his determination and willingness to gain more power, which later in the game he shows by acknowledging Nero and even going as far to thank him even when he is Vergil again.
