I dont really understand if FL has some distinct facial.feature that makes people call her ugly, or if they just mean normal ugly (as in plain jane nothing special). Because if her "ugly" face is so striking, how come so many characters have called her cute/pretty (and she is drawn normally)?
On the other hand, it's kinda hard to believe that the "ugly" nickname just stuck bc of the sisterbitch's bullying. The robert kid immediately called her ugly too.... so which is it ugh!
I never understand why authors/artists are afraid of making actual ugly characters. or at least have that be reflected/manifested in the story. otherwise it’s just a random title with no base to back it up. it would’ve been so interesting to see how the MC deals with that circumstance and is loved despite that. such a waste!!
The way I see it, she is Not actually ugly. She is supposed to have a plain and average face, but the thing is, she lives in poverty and those face of her has never been paid attention to, unlike her sister who probably was given an attention to by his father because she has an exceptionally "pretty" features. Plus the abuse, hits, etc she grew up with, no nutrition and food (hence why she is so small) it's hard to become "beautiful". And she gets compared because probably her mother, sister and all other sister has a more "pretty" features compared to her.
That kid called her ugly, probably because she is the plainest girl he had ever since... conaidering his mother is violet, his nanny is a noble, and those handsome uncles he has grown up with, even the mansion she is in only took in "pretty" people. And he is a kid, so, I think it's the first thing he came up with. Nevertheless, he comes to like Paula a lot that that "ugly" has become a nickname like how a grade schoolers often to tease the girl they like as "ugly".
Hence, if you notice, Paula has not been drawn ugly, but she did look kinda messy and uncared of.
....that's my opinion though eheh.
I almost pulled my hair out with how they dragged out the reveal/confession to each other. That was unnecessarily long! Too much push and pull, overthinking, jumping to conclusions and corny ass delays..
