was actually confused cuz of all the comments talking about jian yi disappearing in the second day of high school and the whole group being middle schoolers this whole time so I went to reread and nah we got it all wrong.
the story begins with jian yi suddenly appearing back in zhan xixi's life AFTER he disappeared in their first year of high school.
confirmed when he says "we were in the same class in middle school, he was really popular for some reason and always let me copy his homework. he was my best friend at the time. he disappeared the secand day of high school, I thought I'd never see him again." (chapter 45)
this confirms two important things that everyones getting wrong.
1. there not in middle school
2. the whole jian yi disappearing has already happened.
and this can be further reinforced when in chp 47 he says, "I want to go to the same uni as you", proving they're still in high school after he came back from the island his dad must've kidnapped him to.
also, we've been shown multiple times that their all 17 so they must be in their final year of high school if anything.
