the fact that so many BL readers have an easier time jiving with characters that are rapists, abusers and/or psychopaths vs a non-human entity displaying his inherited characteristics is baffling.

I saw a comment about someone’s first BL ( Royal Servant, what an era) and it got me thinking. I read WAY too much to recall what my gateway manga/manhua was, especially 15+ years back. I can only imagine it was related to one of the animes on Adult Swim at the time like Inuyasha or something from the library like Full Moon wo Sagashite, Maximu......
Shutline is one of maybe 3-4 BLs I’ve seen out of HUNDREDS the last few years to be so consistent in art, plot, character development AND the dopamine it feeds us.

I just noticed because someone else said it but why did Nanjo suddenly get taller, that’s going to bother me lmao. I thought it was because he was on the skateboard (randomly) in that one panel, but maybe it has to do with the subtle art change and the author potentially (?) forgetting who is what height.
The inconsistency was happening the last chapter (or the one before, fish brain) with Nanjo’s shirt getting progressively unbuttoned every time we switched POVs, only to suddenly be back to Jehovahs Witness levels of modesty.
I will never understand this trope. I would rather actually stab someone than let them intrude into my personal space or social spaces to sexually assault me ( especially knowing they casually fuck every passing hole and could have who knows what kind of diseases) based on an inkling of “omg maybe I feel something about him??”
What the fuck does the author even think liking someone entails. It doesn’t mean you’re a doormat and let them treat you like shit with no standards, being good looking seriously doesn’t get you as far as you think.

Eiser sucks ass as a partner and Serena is such a doormat I haaaate these characters. I keep popping in every 6 months hoping for character development and there never is any.
She keeps being the one to cling on/display weakness over him instead of growing an actual backbone the way a well rounded entrepreneurial powerhouse WHO DOESNT NEED HIM (she’s getting proposed to by the fucking PRINCE for gods sake) should. ML continues to be a total douche who thinks acting selfishly and treating the FMC like a tool to manipulate for his every whim (politically, sexually, emotionally) is acceptable since she wears her emotions openly.
Someone pointed out our recent prime example of them divorcing, him GHOSTING IMMEDIATELY FOR MONTHS, immediately jumping back into sexual relations with his emotionally compromised ex while not recommitting, tries to be all “sure, go accept a marriage proposal” because she’s getting loads, THEN wants to have an absolute tantrum at her for the way OTHER PEOPLE want her since she’s NOT taken? Absolute POS.

I keep seeing the repetitive comments about ML cheating way back when they first tied the knot on the “marriage” and while I’m not going to make any argument for or against the morals of anyone’s actions mentioned in this comment, I will play devils advocate just because it feels like Groundhog Day.
If we stone the ML for stepping out on MC (since we are taking actions of characters at face value, ignoring backstories and/traumas to do the whole 2 wrongs don’t make a right schtick) then why aren’t we pulling MC into the town square for literally evey advance he’s made willingly towards ML. Dude is fucking his sisters man and just plans to return him like that’s a sensible or acceptable thing to do.
Personally, if any of my siblings fucked my partner while I was missing (especially if they were doing it under the pretense of being me for some convoluted reason and my partner knew it was NOT) I’d be sick and absolutely reject the idea of taking them back.
AGAIN, not one way or another on this just being the devils advocate on neither character is clean if you take things at face value. It’s more complex when you have to consider backstories, traumas, outside interference on the plot and the weight that has on certain choices.
Maybe there is more than one main couple with plots running parallel to each other? I’m not even reading this, all the comments popped it up into my suggested and I had to say something.
I’m seeing a lot of people mention the ML killing off the mute friend but if I recall the novel correctly that guy is very much alive and well (which the ML hates.) I haven’t read the raws of the adaptation so maybe they changed it?
