I was really thinking for a moment what if Eustace falls for the guilt trip? (or even just pretends to fall for it to “investigate” Ellensia) And as tired as that thought made me, I kept reading.
Look, I don’t like Eustace. He did fuck up for both his bio daughter and adopted daughter. But credit where credit’s due, he’s finally woken up and understands that his grief/guilt isn’t an excuse. If he let the guilt trip affect his duties aa king, he really would be the kind of person Ellensia is describing.
I’m not saying it’s impossible for no one to tell her old the prince is… BUT THE STORY NEEDS TO ACTUALLY GIVE US A REASON??? (╬ ̄皿 ̄)
Give us a reason why the FL can’t outright ask about his age. Or why she hasn’t picked up a newspaper that talks in detail about the prince. Or why her family and servants haven’t talked about this fiance of hers, like his job or achievements that no 10 yo could have. Buddy, a bad or cliche reason isn’t ideal but c’mon it’s better than nothing.
Sucks because I like the art a lot, but if the writing is going to leave such a huge plot hole in the middle of the story, there’s no way I can enjoy it.
I don’t hate this story, but there’s been a slow accumulation of my frustration from all these stories about talented women who are hounded by a shitty man. Because the solution is always another man, whether it’s a princely suitor or a ducal father or whatever.
“Only a man can fix problems made by a man.” Saying that it’s historically accurate is true, and I’m not arguing that. But I’m so tired of it being true.
Just. For once. ONE TIME. Let me read a fantasy where a woman can completely handle her shitty ex by herself and doesn’t need another man to boost her courage or status first.
“I’ll Master This Family” is genuinely one of my top manhwa of all time. I even preordered the official English vol 1, lol.
But every time there’s an “I’ll Master This Family” there’s an “Ebony” and a “Salvation About Its Cruelty”. They try to frame the protagonists are independent if only the system weren’t so unfair… but the protagonist can’t even handle a shitty man from her past by herself, let alone larger systemic inequalities.
I, for one, love that Phileo is still drawn to Varia, like she’s the one for him. It proves that Leo has changed a lot of things (including her dad!) but some things will always be the same.
Also I’m just a total sucker for MLs falling for FLs first, and Varia’s “commitment” to work is very very funny to me. Since Leo is too young to find love, her dad has to make it up to the readers!!!
Perry’s so smart when dealing with other people, but this last bit with her family is so dumb. Why did she have to heal her brother? Isn’t it wildly plot convenient that her fake body somehow has her real hair? Won’t lying to her bio family just make it harder to investigate the tower???
I mean, I knew there would be plot contrivances to make Perry get involved with the Exer family, but this has so little explanation for why any of it has happened. If Perry genuinely had an emotional reaction to her brothers fighting and forgot about the mission to risk healing him, I would love that. But instead of showing that character moment, we get a stupid scene of this weird half-bald dude freaking out. I just can’t feel good about it.

I don’t actually know her age, but just from her behavior I can confidently say she’s not mature enough to be in this relationship.
Anyone dating a single parent immediately has to reconcile that 1) they are not automatically the kid’s parent because they’re the parent’s partner and 2) there is a high likelihood the parent will have a complex relationship with another person. If you want someone who only has you in their heart, do not date a single parent.
And what does this girl do? The moment she gets a nuanced answer from the MC? She immediately takes it as a yes and takes it to its most extreme, using public pressure to force him into the relationship she wants. The irony is by doing this, she confirms that the MC is right: she’s too young and not ready to date a middle-aged man with history and baggage.
Actually I’m not done. “I’m married”/“So what?” makes me soooo mad. That’s the cliche line of a pretty college girl who thinks seducing an older man will make her into a “real adult” and validate her self worth.
Polygyny doesn’t even seem to be normalized in this world; every romantic relationship so far has been monogamous and there’s no evidence to the contrary. So where tf does she get off on just telling a married man to ignore his legal wife and fuck her instead?
It’s not even about the missing wife and if she was a good person or not. It’s that the MC clearly sees his marriage as an obstacle to being in a new relationship, and this girl doesn’t give him any time to process moving on from his marriage before slotting herself in as Wife 2.0. Almost like his feelings don’t matter as long as she can “have” him.
