No one has to agree with the character’s way of thinking but understanding it definitely helps seeing different perspectives.

Exactly! You don't have to take it personally, and you don't have to analyze the situation AS IF YOU WERE part of it. You're not. You're a reader. Personalizing will only pain you when something as delicate as this is put on the table. We have to think AS IF WE WERE KAJI (in this example). Why would he say that? Why is he in such a state? Everything is clearer that way.

BTW you're welcome. I love this story, I think Ayaka Matsumoto is a sweetheart and she loves Kaji and Fukami way more than we do (they are her kids). She wouldn't make them any wrong. We have 79 earlier chapters to prove that :)

I'm really curious what kind of additional context is supposed to be able to justify a contemplation of cheating, regardless of however momentary it was and however quickly the guy dismissed it himself.

It's just as simple as the rest of the story. He thinks about that in a moment of extreme exhaustion and sadness and loneliness (when we all say stupid stuff, even worse than this) and he deflects it immediately because he's not in fact alone anymore. The rest of the episodes are great and they made a lot of progress in their relationship so it bothers me that people are complaining (not saying bitching so nobody is offended) over a single panel that is only an intrusive thought he declines and is part of his development as a character. His mind is all over the place because the mother that abandoned him is dying and the father who doesn't call him at all calls him to be in charge of her soon-to-happen funeral.... Sorry if his mind plays him dirty for over a second.

To be honest if I knew the receiption I wouldn't have upload the chapters at all. They were released like two months ago and the fandom received them with happiness and cheers. There were no toxicity nor complains over such a "small potato" (yelena belova dixit). No war, which is so refreshing sometimes. There are two more episodes (six in this format) released in japanese and there is still more development in their relationship in there.

The fact that his first impulse was to consider being unfaithful—as a result of mental exhaustion—says a lot about him. That doesn't make it "more understandable," because it simply demonstrates that he doesn't trust his current partner enough to call him in the first place; if he feels so lonely and abandoned, why not call his partner?

The thing is that it wasn't him going "man I'm so sad and horny what if I just said fuck it to all". At that moment it seemed like Kaji genuinely forgot he had a boyfriend. He was thinking like he had reverted to a version of himself in world where Fukami didn't exist yet. Which you could judge as being stupid, inconsiderate or thoughtless, but it literally is not "considering being unfaithful" lol. What's being shown is while he has to reconnect with a part of his past he associates with misery, he's not limited by it anymore and can't afford to go back to his old habits.

Kaji did a lot of stupid things in the past, not only this sole thought that lasted one literal second, but also rating date according if they fucked him well or not, etc. So I don't understand this whole performative behavior over something we knew since episode one: he is extremely FLAWED and he's getting better thanks to Fukami. Fukami is not better, but people seemed to forget he treated Kaji like shit when he didn't deserve it after the transfer notice.

What makes me laugh the most is when people complained here because he didn't call Fukami first when... IF THEY HAVE WAITED UNTIL THE GOD MODS OF THIS SITE APPROVED MY UPLOADS they would have known it's LITERALLY WHAT HE DOES IMMEDIATELY after that stupid thought.

Okay. This coming after he threw a huge jealous tantrum about his Fukami making friends with their neighbor? Here's the thing, Kaji might've been an asshole at the beginning of this story, but 80 chapters later, when he and his boyfriend are living together and Kaji has met Fukami's mom and told her that they're lovers, there's maybe kinda sorta an expectation that he has changed from who he used to be? Just a little? It's not as if his mind is a separate being from himself; he's in control of what he thinks and what he wants, and if the thought of cheating is the first thing that comes into his mind when he's tired and sad, then that makes him seem like such a shitty person, not the dude I've cheering for since like chapter 20 of this story.

I'm the first one disliking cheating subplots but in this case it's just an intrusive thought that appeared in a SECOND of vulnerability after a regretion of sorts for him. You can likeit more or less as a resource but the WHOLE scene is there to prove not even in such a moment he would condone such a behavior of his past self and that's it. If in twenty chapter he cheats for real lfor whatever reason and because the author doesnt want to close the story then we can complain together, but in this case it is pointless. The author herself proved us again and again she knows what she's doing. Calling her names over a panel is stupid and I wont allow it. I wont be part of nonsensical hate.

Maybe we just have different standards, then, but I don't think it's a good way to show character growth at all. To me, it doesn't imply "See how far he's come, he immediately dismisses any considerations of returning to his old ways," but rather, "So even after everything they've been through, infidelity is still his default state and he's just constantly fighting against it on a subconscious level." It doesn't matter that it's a single panel, because now we know that cheating is a thing that he WOULD consider, if even for a split second. We've literally been shown it happen now, even if he shut it down himself. The fact that his intrusive thoughts take the form of cheating when he's in a committed relationship to someone that he gets jealous of doesn't convey anything positive about the character. Him going "WHOA HOW COULD I EVEN THINK THAT???" doesn't undo the fact that he DID consider it, and sure, he may have been in a vulnerable state, but that just leaves the question of what will happen next time he's feeling vulnerable.

I'm not cursing out the author here, by the way, but the character. As a reader, I'm well within my right to have an opinion about the story I'm reading.
