Okay so I might be overthinking this, but I still stand by my earlier opinion. I just reread the chapter and there was two red flags to me. He blushed when he came to the realization that there might be something heavier than he can imagine on her shoulders and saw that she was about to cry. Even if it was just him thinking the vulnerable side of her is cute compared to her swordsmanship side (which that is what’s going on I think), that’s personally still a red flag for me because the blushes only began after he noticed thus side of vulnerability?
It kind of reminds me of those kind of people who like people with baggage to try and pick them up from the ground, which inherently at its core doesn’t have anything too wrong with it, the problem is these kind of relationships can quickly become toxic (not that I know from personal experience).
The second ref flag from me was his choice of words in including the term “child”. This is most definitely just me being overly sensitive, but the fact that he used that word specifically feels patronizing? It kind of feels like he wants to take care of her and help her as if she is a child, but then he had the full on blush, which to me personally just felt mildly pedo. Again, I am stretching, I acknowledge that, but that’s what led to me feeling ew at this chapter. ( ̄∇ ̄")
And in retort to the person who said that we all read toxic comics already that are much worse than this but we ignore that and nitpick on this, two things. The first, most stories that we read with toxic relationships, we read knowing it’s toxic. This story was supposed to not be toxic (judging by the description and cover) so I am allowing myself to be nitpicky. Second, if toxicity ever gets too bad, I jump ship, especially if it isn’t glossed over and never addressed again. In some cases tho the author makes the toxic relationship a plot point and later fixes it to show a healthy relationship. I eat up those stories I’ll admit.
I will continue to read this story and will most likely eventually forget this, but if for whatever reason I continue to see red flags I will not continue reading. I would like to thank the scanlations group for this chapter and for posting this story here. I like it so far, I just like to criticize things it’s like a hobby of mine. For the people who read up to this point, mad respect, and thank you for coming to my TedTalk. ヾ(☆▽☆)
With respect to your third paragraph, I agree. The fact that he used the term "child" and blushed was odd/creepy. Personally, I'm attracted to people who are okay with showing vulnerability. Not because I like to fix people with baggage, but you get a glimpse as to who they really are. It's a sign of trust and respect. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I think showing vulnerability as like a person and being okay with showing it is a great personality trait, one that I think is required in a healthy relationship. But that’s like after you know the person? Like he barely knows her, he really doesn’t know her but the first thing that made her attractive immediately to him was her vulnerability and that makes me feel oofy. And it wasn’t the kind of vulnerability where she was purposefully opening up to him either, so that’s also why I don’t like it in this instance? And yeah the child thing was super weird and mildly creepy
Glad I'm not the only one who found the "child" thing creepy lmao. As for the first paragraph, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because he might just like her duality.
I like to think that duality attracts us to people. For example, someone who looks terrifying but enjoys baking and gardening. Someone who is very professional and "no nonsense" at work but who is silly and chill off work. Someone who seems shy with no presence but who actually is an amazing performer.
It adds layers to people and makes them more interesting. Anyways sorry for being long winded lol
MY first thought upon the latest chapter was just “ew”. I will probably be dropping this. If he saw someone he thought had trauma and thought that was attractive, I worry for the future relationship. I’ll read a couple more chapters and see if anything changes or if I misunderstood, but right now the main couple (for the future) is giving me icky vibes.
Not another comic villainizing corsets smh... also, if the robe a la française was an eighteenth century thing, then it wouldn’t have technically even been a corset, rather it would have been stays, right? And even then, it wouldn’t have been painful necessarily... heavy, yes, painfully constricting no. If it was then that’s a problem with the design since corsets and stays were historically made to fit you especially for nobles. It was all custom to not be painful... I don’t know, fashion history buffs support me please
Having read this part in the novel, in this instance corsets and paniers weren't exactly villainized per se. The issue was that the dresses are heavy, it's the middle of summer, and it's a day party with obligatory dancing. So the "painful" part was how great the risk of heatstroke was.
Though the novel translations ended not far past the party, so dunno if there was an anti-corset rant later on. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
idk much abt corsets but i think it's because throughout history like in the movies etc they portray a woman wearing a corset to be like a hassle cuz they always show the servants tightening it suuuuper tight and it looks hard like cardboard... it also doesn't help that corsets centre around the idea of shaping a woman's body to have smaller waist which, when you look at it, looks quite uncomfortable and frankly painful to put on so maybe that has smtg to do with these isekai novels disliking corsets haha
I'm glad to see people standing up for corsets ╥﹏╥ If anyone is interested in learing about corsets and has 15 minutes to spare, I'd recommend watching "How Victorian Men Taught Us to Hate Corsets: The Biggest Lie in Fashion History" by Karolina Zebrowska, or "I Grew Up in a Corset. Time to Bust Some Myths." by Bernadette Banner on YouTube!
Most movies represent corsets wrong tho? Corsets are like historic bras. The only times they were tight laced was for rare occasions, and most movies fail to mention that to get that slim waist and everything, they kind of created an optical illusion. They would pad the boobs and butt to make them look bigger and the waist smaller. So while it looks really exaggerated and painful, it wasn’t because that wasn’t there actual shape, it was padding. And in terms of organs moving, it was never permanent. Your organs move around more when you are pregnant, and they always move back, and the same was with corsets. Yes it could be dangerous to tightlace every day, but nobody did that. Most things considered common knowledge today about corsets are generally wrong especially in terms of historical corsets. I’m not a professional on this subject, but I have done some research on this subject.
Honestly at the moment I’m not really liking their relationship. It doesn’t really feel like they’ve had a meaningful, heart to heart, no gates barred conversation? Like it doesn’t feel like any of the characters developed feelings for each other, it’s more of like “I want to fuck, but be an ok husband” kind of relationship at the moment? It just doesn’t feel like they connected yet and have a genuine reason to like each other outside of marriage... like if they could talk about her inferiority complex, or directly address the “ill love you even ufologists you stutter” conversation, or like talk about their issues with Max’s father, literally any kind of conversation that’s not surface level, it would feel as if their relationship isn’t solely revolving around the fact that they are married and have sex.
I wonder if we will ever see more of Minhyuk’s weight loss journey... this is the first time in a long time we are seeing his non game version self...
spoiler......

he will really lose weight until his the same as his character altohugh, from what I've read, he started loosing wait from 120kg plus until 88kg? not sure if i remembered correctly, but somewhere close to those numbers. then he started going out and meeting others in the real word from chapter 500 plus.
its really great reading how he changed the lives of both the npc's and those players(friends or soon to be friends)

I just started reading I’m like six chapters in and all I can say is wtf why is Cage a literal caveman. Like I don’t know if she has some sort of speech impediment or sonething, in which case fine, but the way she talks has me cackling since the author hasn’t explained why at this point she talks like that? Also she’ll use words like impertinent and won’t speak in grammatically correct sentences. Like they can be shirt, just let them make mr sense for the love of shrek (/TДT)/
Cuz she 3. Her body's tongue is not fully developed yet.
nope cage is the "sword" girl. im on chapter ten and i was confused ab that too
She lived in the mountains her whole life before meeting the dragons I’m pretty sure
But like she’s lived in the castle/palace for at least two years if not more, you’d think she’d gain some more vernacular in that time? Or at least attempt to learn the language better to not “tarnish the princesss name”. And then that raises the other question of how she knows more complex words like impertinent but not how to set up a simple sentence?
