it kills me that even after all those years, dohun still thinks about his mother so much. still thinks about how miserable she was and how he couldn't do anything for her....

like the last time he saw her he was around 5 years old? but even as a 31 year old man he still can't help comparing moments of his adult life to the time he was with her. dohun is probably always chasing that image of her, wanting to give her happiness despite the misery that surrounded them

dohun's mother was too mentally ill to take proper care of him, neglecting him and abusing him. it seems like she even tried to kill herself in front of dohun (her neck is suspiciously hidden in ch 81) she is pitiful, but a kid having to deal with all of that in his developmental years makes me so sad. he was just a child who wanted to comfort his mother, it's no wonder he was already a bit emotionless.

I think the reason she gave him away to his father was because she finally gave up, she just couldn't take it anymore. if u notice when dohun first went to the park, his father told him that his mother didn't want to see him, but the second time it happened the father said that she was gone. now I don't trust him, but this makes me think she killed herself during those years

man I thought dohun was just being a pervert when he groped drunk yuwon in the car but it seems like he was confirming seongmin's words huh the fact there were hints about this all the way back in season 1 really does make me impressed with jakpil more lol s1 dohun does so much shady shit u can't help put yourself in yuwon's shoes and wonder if this guy is even human but now that his mentality for his behaviors is being revealed the reason he does those things make so much sense (even if his justifications are weird lol). it really does make me feel sorry for yuwon tho it feels like he will never be surrounded by good people in his life and the people who seem to care about him just disappear or hide things from him

lmao getting to see everyone distracted by the last panel AGAIN like guys let's focus on the fact dohun has been hallucinating and replacing the flowers the whole time?? even as their love rotted and his mind deteriorated dohun still clinged to his only comfort and ever more distant love. it's a really nice way to see how their love has changed/rotted but dohun refuses to see it/refuses to change with it, because admitting it would simply break him

I think it's incredible that dohun somehow only learned the bad things from all of what yuwon did in front of him. there are really no good adults or role models in their life. seeing both of them being okay w being harassed for a job breaks my heart someone save these kids

speaking of adults, his father is so creepy. I find his intimidating/terrifying appearance reveals so much about how dohun thinks of him. maybe dohun doesn't care about what happens to the company, but he definitely fears his father, even if he doesn't say it. the way he completely froze when his father mentioned yuwon? the fact hes still getting beaten even as an adult for "education" (although I guess that's just normal for him)? his father is basically saying obey or die so I hope dohun kills this guy soon

that fairytale is pretty blatant in it's parallels to their relationship. to the point I wonder if dohun wasn't the one who made it up himself after it got burned.

but there's something interesting I saw a kr fan bring up. the way the deer originally went running to get water to save the tree, but got caught up in the talk of destiny, and when it came back to the tree it only talked Abt building a house, having completely forgotten that the tree still needed water to survive.

but even if it did find water, there was no way for it to bring it back. so "isn’t the water that the tree wants something the deer can’t provide, and a problem it can’t solve?"

dohun is so focused on destiny that he completely overlooks what yuwon really needs. he wants yuwon to be happy more than anyone and constantly seeks to fix what makes him suffer, but in his obsession to be the one who makes yuwon happy, he completely overlooks the actual reason yuwon is so miserable isn't something he can fix. even if he has money, gets rid of bullies, tells yuwon to blame him and gets a house with only each other for company yuwon wouldn't be happy. unless dohun realizes this.

my guess is that for yuwon the water is "connections/relationships". yuwon needs to not feel alone, to have someone by his side who won't get hurt bc of him, he wants a relationship that brings him the same security his parents did. dohun just can't provide that security and love yuwon experienced in childhood since he himself never experienced something like that except with yuwon. and by isolating him, hiding things and trying to solve all the problems by himself, dohun is just driving yuwon away

also the way that guy says that dohun needs to learn how to let it go, but he still clings to the dying flowers yuwon gave him... merry bad end here we go

it's kinda fascinating to see how even yuwon wasn't able to change dohun back then, because dohun is so set on the idea only him can make yuwon happy. it seems like he genuinely thought abt the good ppl in his life, but he refuses to accept any variation to his views, bc then it will be like admitting that he isn't necessary for yuwon's happiness and break his happy soulmates fairytale (and it doesn't help that their abusers tend to validate his view).

but unlike yuwon's, I think his father's influence goes deeper, not only bc of the brainwashing (but ofc that plays a large role), but also that dohun actually liked the idea of revenge, bc it made yuwon happy, and bc it allowed him to completely eliminate others in the way of their happiness. dohun is scary but kinda behaves like a child in the way he picks up what others tell him. like dohun following his father's advice in an exact way and following yuwon wish for retribution in the exact way too, even his father was surprised by that lol

his desire to protect yuwon is childlike too, it's rooted in an innocent wish to be loved by someone, but to me it seems like he isn't even aware that he just wants to be loved. his extreme actions are part of who he is now since that's the environment his family cultivated, even if dohun was in the basement he still learned the exact behavior he should have to succeed in the family by abuse and by seeing how his brother was treated.

for someone like yuwon who was raised with empathy (before his parents died), I can see why loving dohun is suffocating. having someone say they killed for u is too much for anyone and it haunts him all the way to his adult years. he completely erased the memory of himself wishing for their death and dohun confessing he did it bc of him... yuwon just can't believe it in his mind that someone he loves would do something like this because of *him*. dohun was a large part of why he dissociated so hard too, and then u get the multiple head traumas he's had then it's no wonder he just forgot

I love this terrifying aspect of their relationship. ultimately they were both kids with issues that couldn't have been solved by each other, even if dohun tried. it's not pretty and confirms to me that they were doomed even from the beginning. this wasn't something that could be changed with just love and I like that

why didn't dohun just use his brother's money to pay off the bullies and keep yuwon from working? is he stupid? /j

I remember reading ch 73 and thinking waow yuwon actually won the "I can change him" competition, if only he had more time with dohun but then I saw the last panel and was like nvm. lmao

the only hope for them is therapy and even then that would only have worked if they had started as young as 11yo. they're just fundamentally stuck in their own web

ch 72 makes me feel so sad for dohun. the author's way of showing dohuns desire for control being born with his mother is so good. I can't help but feel for that lil kid who just wanted to feel loved. I also really like how you can link pretty much every single one of dohun's actions to something someone else taught him. it's nice to reread and see dohun copy-paste action.

but yuwon is so interesting in this chapter as well. yuwon is going to keep running to save people, to take their place as a punching bag. at the playground, highschool or work. if he were to get away from the situation, someone else would take his place, which keeps him trapped to the spot bc he doesn't want anyone to get hurt bc of him.

and despite dohun loving that aspect of yuwon who runs to save others (to save *him*). he also can't stand not being able to help. yuwon who hides his injuries and crumbled uniform, who tells dohun not to interfere when he's getting harassed and bullied, who feels hurt when adults talk harshly to dohun. i can feel his frustration with that sacrificing nature of yuwon. I can also feel his frustration with himself who is so useless next to yuwon's suffering. he doesn't want to be another burden to yuwon's life. in fact, he wants to be useful. I can even see why he would think of killing yuwon's worries lol

interesting how dohun is so expressive (compared to his usual) and openly mocks his brother right in front of him. dohun clearly doesn't respect him but still listens to his brother abt the sex thing. is he just that easily influenced? I wonder if it's bc he doesn't know anything that he just accepts it all without question? or if maybe he likes the ideas he hears from his family

anyway we need to find a way to end his family. the fact they still have a hold on him all the way to adulthood should be impossible. bro u need to kill them

I've said this somewhere before but there's this line in s3 "every bone in my body vibrated with the beats of my heart, and the corner of my lips, as if caught by a chain, remained lifted, beyond my control" that is said when dohun meets yuwon for the very first time and gets repeated in different ways but lacking something

"but for some reason even though my bones shook, the corners of my lips didnt lift" in their highschool introduction, and "the corners of my lips, which hadn't moved, lifted" when yuwon protected him and "my heartbeat pounded as if my bones were about to break" during the warehouse thing.

dohun is slowly getting to see the parts of yuwon he loves and seeing his unchanging nature helps him cling to the only version of yuwon he knows. but the fact he thinks yuwon genuinely doesn't like him is what keeps him from being truly happy like he was as a child

after yuwon affirms their bond, his belief on their destiny never wavers again. I think that's part of why he gets so angry/upset when yuwon dares to challenge that belief when they're adults. to dohun, he already got the confirmation he needed but yuwon challenging this again goes against their destiny. this time dohun has absolute certainty that yuwon does love him and refuses to doubt it, unlike in highschool when he was willing to die to let yuwon be happy without him. one thing I think remained the same tho is that dohun absolutely does want yuwon to just say what will make him happy, or else he will take matters into his own hands, but even in adulthood yuwon refuses to let dohun be responsible for that bc he is afraid of vulnerability and of dohun (and also u don't exactly form healthy rships by assuming all responsibility for ur lovers happiness lol)

the way dohun considers for a brief moment that yuwon might actually hate him and just completely loses all meaning in life makes me so miserable. for him, yuwon is all he has, if yuwon actually doesn't need him then in a way he's rejecting all of dohun existence so far. this demonstrates most clearly how he clings to their destiny and needs yuwon to depend on him to be truly be able to cope with his own miserable life. because if his destiny is not meant to be happiness together with yuwon then what does he have?

and yuwon unintentionally reaffirming this shared unchangeable destiny is incredible. they're so doomed it's amazing

the "tit for tat" translation is so unserious I keep giggling

still a extremely good scene tho. it is more clear that yuwon himself said it with all the words possible what he wanted. too bad he was genuinely disassociating and dohun didn't notice lol dohun has no sense how to act when yuwon is very distressed and dissociating (those who read ch 74 know...). never let bro comfort anyone ever.

I was rereading and I just noticed the only other time dohun gives that lopsided smile that he did when he reunited with yuwon is when he's being choked out (ch 32)

it makes me think that he might only smile like that when he feels like yuwon is demonstrating a need for him. or he sees yuwon unchanging self

when he first saw yuwon being harassed, he saw it as a yuwon remaining someone who he can protect, being the type who ends up in unfortunate situations bc of his genuine kindness, and therefore needs him. and when yuwon chokes him, dohun can feel useful by relieving yuwons stress (not that it's very successful) and enable yuwons old guilt complex

might be wrong but that smile intrigued me so I'm just throwing out what might be the reason

Dohuns mom mental illness made her incapable of really loving dohun, of giving him genuine secure affection. it seemed like she was devastated to give him away, but her unstable mental health made that she could never be happy even with him around. because of her Dohun felt like a burden. he wanted to relieve her sadness, even if all her anger was directed at him, it would make him feel like he could do something for her. Her neglectful abuse, hot and cold attitude made dohun unable to properly develop his emotional capacities, but still want to take away her pain, like every child wants to support their parent. I also think that's part of why he never tried to run away from his father's home, it was his mom who brought him there.

So when yuwon blames dohun it's also way for dohun to take all the pain he couldn't take from his mother. it's almost as if he can make it up to her after she abandoned him. After years of abuse and isolation he's numb to all things, he believes that this is what he's meant to do. This is why he suffered. To relieve his loved one's pain.

when I see it like this I can understand why he clings so hard to "destiny". he is enchanted by the idea that everyone has a fate, and his fate is to his love. someone who he will be able to love and be loved back. he is able to endure all these things because he believes in that idea. it's his way of coping.
