This was alright I guess. The ending felt flat and the whole Raymond “copying” bs felt convoluted and low key didn’t make sense. I’m not sure if it was the author’s fault or something lost in the inevitable translation. I didn’t really like the male lead and idk the whole plot just left me feeling dissatisfied when I felt like it started somewhat strong.

Now, this point onwards is a rant about the guideverse as a whole and not really about this story aside from the government aspect. This is going to seem hypocritical bc I read omegaverse and what not, but I feel like guideverse is even more insidious. And this rant isn’t to say I hate either genre bc I read plenty of both. I can see why it became a thing, people wanted super powers in a plot system (e.g., guides and espers), and then people wanted the fact that they get horny while guiding or whatever much like an omegaverse. So the common theme and issue in both genres is the lack of autonomy, especially with their bodies. They get horny or aroused at the drop of a hat almost always against their will in both universes. However, I feel like it’s even worse in guideverse purely bc guides (the omegas of the AU) have hardly any rights or autonomy PERIOD. Stories often write the guides to be overseen by the government, and, espers included, everyone must report to the government that they have said abilities. Now not only do they lose autonomy for when they have bodily reactions (forced guiding or making out being the only thing that works, for example). But they also have no other choice bc it’s government mandated and you can’t get out of it especially if the trope of being matched with someone of higher rank applies. Like in this story, she had to report herself as a guide after being exposed bc it was “illegal.” I see the usual rape themes in omegaverse, but guideverses are constantly violating. I’m not sure which one is worse (they’re both pretty equal ngl) - “you’re an omega so you’re built to feel this way” OR “you’re a guide and you have no choice to feel this way bc it’s your job and we will push you into this feeling every time.”

Maybe I think I dislike guideverse more bc all the stories I’ve read are predominantly nothing but abuse and glamorized to be “oh he’s a hurting esper who’s obsessive and possessive and needs to be healed thru fucking to calm his raging powers.” I guess I’m biased even though I’ve read some heinous omegaverses as well.

There’s nothing I hate more than the 0 communication/ misunderstanding trope. It’s so fucking over used and so fucking awful bc what could be easily avoided and finished in one fell swoop is drug out for 50 + chapters. Mikhail is going to gather info on Mayfield, use it to become a powerful pillar or whatever, and go back to the princess and be like “I did it all for you bc I was so useless, so I sold myself as a traitor to become a spy from the inside.” Deadass this shit is the bane to my existence. Like no doubt this is what has happened. And instead of making him act like an adult and the supposedly smart man he is, he decides to not say a word. The author has clearly made it so the audience turns against him and they’re either going to set up Ryan as the main ML if it’s not a harem or bring him back with that bs as a harem (lowk already a harem). Like could you not be more obvious? This trope is often used when an author can’t make an interaction organic or can’t write tension well so they wimp out and do this shit. He’s so down bad for her there’s no way he’s fine with hearing Mayfield say he wants to kill her. Boring

I haven’t read this since it first came out, I thought I’d check what the comments are thinking, and the comments about omega x alpha are frying me.

This was so good. I waited YEARS for this to finish. Peak. Absolute Cinema. But, bc I am a glutton for more, I feel slightly disappointed on Emi not coming back to the body to see the world loving her and not just abandoning her. I was really really hoping she got the body back. But I’m also happy that she didn’t bc Remi is an amazing character. It leaves a bittersweet taste in your mouth upon completion.

This is one of the most unique isekai villainesses I’ve ever read and one of the best of all time.

I’m at Ch 20, idk if it changes or is explained but Demian sucking his finger is so fucking weird and so fucking annoying.

I don’t like this story, which is ironic bc I liked it when it first came out however many years ago. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older but the fallacies of “everything works out through the power friendship and being nice” is boring. The near constant cliches are getting old. I think I’m up to chapter 67/68. Like come on, there couldn’t have been a better political maneuver to put the Pope in a tight spot than bringing in a rude foreign princess? And if the divine beast is supposedly so revered how can she get away with being an absolute dick to this second most holy entity aside from the Pope and the god? It also feels like they’re forgetting that MC said she could “see the future” and never uses that again. I’ll wait to see if she does the same “i saw the future” with father “Giovani” or not. Also the foreshadowing in this is butt; the author’s version of foreshadowing is saying “oh they had a daughter” and proceeds to draw a little girl that looks identical to MC but without eyes and how she’s so depressed for not having parents that loved her right after showing blurbs of the Madean-Medean rulers that she literally resembles.

I get it, I read a lot of dubious things and don’t usually have an issue but maybe bc I’m in a bad mood, I’m more critical of this story rn. I’ve read plenty of the stories where the “I’m going to break you bc I want you to myself” trope is used. Reading smut doesn’t suddenly mean criticism isn’t a thing. The sex was cool, yeah, I guess. They’re hot, yeah. But looking at it in a critical sense of writing, the MC’s character arc was sloppy. How are you raised in a literal mafia house, choose to ignore the obscenities of living in a mafia house, ignore your best friend literally being the heir, and be so fucking helpless and naive? It’d make more sense if he was on the tougher side. Yes, it seems like it was a nicer environment and violence wasn’t prevalent in the home, but you would still have an idea especially with all these rough men around. He literally admits he knew or had an “inkling” but chose to ignore it. Now, one thing that really pissed me off about the ML. The scene with joonhung or whatever scar face’s name is. He enters the home MC is being isolated in and beats him up bc he thinks MC is a detriment to ML (also, author never chose to go in depth with MC’s traumatic past of being locked in a closet??????? Hello????? Is character development in the room with us or not???). ML enters and is angry with MC trying to jump to escape, his first thought is, you’re leaving me waaahhhh, and not WHERE DID THIS BLACK EYE COME FROM??? He got mad when he realized scar face hit him but he couldn’t use critical thinking to explain how his boy toy locked up safely suddenly had a black eye. Make it make sense. Out of everything, that scene was the most infuriating thing to happen out of 65 chapters.

And then bc I found it redundant I just scrolled past all the rape bc why not. It gets old sometimes.

I will be buying a physical copy once it comes to my local B&N.
