I am absolutely loving this shift in the power dynamic! Seeing Nanjo take the reins while Mok-yeon becomes the vulnerable one is so incredibly satisfying. The author is doing an amazing job showing how much Nanjo secretly feeds on Mok-yeon's intense obsession, fully aware of the intoxicating hold he has over him. It is also fascinating to watch how Mok-yeon's behavior is unraveling to reveal his deepest trauma and fear of abandonment. He used to be so detached, wearing a cold, aloof mask because he simply wasn't emotionally invested enough to care. But love changes everything. Nanjo has completely dismantled that armor, and watching Mok-yeon's absolute vulnerability break through is just brilliant storytelling.

I don't get why people don't see that nanjo descent into this whole complex situation stems from a deeply ingrained savior complex, a desire for absolute control, and profound underlying loneliness. While it is easy to view Nanjo purely as Mok-yeon's victim, it is apparent that Nanjo actively made decisions that bound him to this disaster from the very start. Nanjo is emotionally intelligent and before mokyeon even entered the picture, nanjowas already trapped in this asymmetric relationship with Chae Sunhwa, an opportunistic partner who used him primarily for financial benefit and status. Nanjo was entirely aware that Sunhwa was exploiting him and instead of cutting ties, Nanjo leaned heavily into a savior role. He believed he could protect or change Sunhwa, This pre existing tolerance for being emotionally used; made him a prime candidate for mokyeon psychological warfare. Nanjo had this illusion of control and arrogance, he genuinely thought that he was the one pulling the strings, remember the last scene he appeared in when mokyeon came crying and confessed that he liked him, and nanjo said he didn't need to apologize since he was proud, this is him alluding to being arrogant regarding this whole ordeal, he thought nothing could destabilize his life or taint his reputation, his pride convinced him he could handle mokyeon. Beneath Nanjo’s hyper masculine and polite exterior lays an intense emotional isolation. Mokyeon who has severe abandonment trauma sensed this emptiness instantly during their first encounter. For someone like nanjo who spent his life tightly wound, maintaining strict boundaries and suppressing his true desires, a force as consuming as Mok-yeon is terrifyingly magnetic, i think on some subconscious level nanjo was starving to feel something intense.. Well that's my take anyway and the title of the manhua is a dead giveaway that it fits both of them albeit in different ways.

It's interesting, both men are deeply flawed, have physiological issues even before meeting each other, if anything after meeting, they became their most raw real selves, they both crave absolute control over their environment to feel safe, Nanjo achieves control through rigid societal compliance and acting like a moral savior and Mok-yeon achieves control through physical presence and breaking boundaries, so when they collide, these two different methods of control cancel each other out, leaving only raw, unfiltered lust and a dangerous possessiveness, it's almost like they recognize their own darkness in the other person, creating a toxic feedback loop of mutual attraction. If they choose to change, their high emotional intelligence could actually save them. If Mok-yeon learns to trust that Nanjo won't abandon him, and if Nanjo accepts his true desires without shame, their intense possessiveness could evolve into an unbreakable, fiercely protective devotion. They would become an exclusive unit against a world that failed them both, but if they refuse to confront their traumas, their relationship will remain a psychological battlefield. Mok-yeon will continue to use self-destruction and desperation as a tether, while Nanjo will swing violently between passionate submission and cold, furious rejection. They will stay together, but only to slowly tear each other apart piece by piece.
They are a perfect example of a narrative where love isn't gentle or sweet; it is a violent, chemical reaction between two broken people who finally found someone strong enough to match their intensity.

this is such a great analysis on their relationship, the characters are written so complex that makes it a beautiful story, even the trope is uncommon, it’s not like the other stereotypical bls where you could immediately predict the storyline, the creativity and originality of this story is what draws me in.

I feel the same, it has been a while since i have been hooked by a good plot, and true almost evey bl story is all about showing them sleeping with each other a million time rather than showing a good plot with characters that are complex and flawed, i love the psychological aspect in the story too, and the shift in the power balance, it's fascinating because both nanjo and Mok-yeon aren’t blindly stumbling into toxicity, they can read each other’s deepest vulnerabilities like an open book. Anyway l can't wait to know what happens next

First of all, a lot of important context from the webnovel gets lost in the webtoon adaptation, which is why so many readers misunderstand Carcel’s character and judge him far more harshly than they probably would otherwise.

The webnovel and the webtoon portray both Carcel and Ines very differently in tone and intensity. The novel spends much more time inside Carcel’s head, showing his insecurity, jealousy, confusion about Ines, and his growing obsession after realizing that she genuinely does not care what he does.

The novel also makes it clear that his womanizing is partly rebellion and partly self destruction. Since childhood, he believed the arranged engagement trapped him, so he tried to “enjoy freedom” before marriage, an idea that Ines herself encouraged him to believe.

Yes, Carcel slept with other women during their engagement, and ultimately that was still his decision, so I’m not excusing it.

However, the webtoon leaves out a lot of the psychological context behind why he grew up with that mindset in the first place. From the time they were children, Inés deliberately framed their engagement as something suffocating and prison like, which heavily shaped how he viewed both marriage and commitment.

The novel also portrays his emotional development much more gradually. At first, Carcel wants a reaction from Ines. Then he becomes disturbed by her complete indifference. Eventually, he slowly realizes that she is not simply cold, but emotionally broken.

One of the biggest adaptation differences is Inés herself. Novel Ines is colder, more fatalistic, manipulative, traumatized, and emotionally detached. She often treats marriage, relationships, and even herself as political tools because of what she suffered across multiple timelines/lives.

The webtoon softens many of these aspects and smooths over some of her manipulative behavior toward Carcel. In the novel, she consciously chose him because she believed he was attractive, politically useful, easier to control than other noblemen, and likely to willingly engage in affairs, which would later give her justification for divorce.

When Ines chose Carcel as her fiance at six years old, she unintentionally made herself the center of his emotional world. Even though he initially resisted the engagement, she ended up shaping his identity and future far more deeply than she realized.

What many readers also miss is that, in every lifetime, Carcel genuinely loved Ines. In fact, the novel heavily implies that this current timeline is the only one in which he became involved with other women at all, and even then, that behavior was heavily influenced by Ines’s manipulation, emotional distance, and the beliefs she instilled in him from childhood.

The webtoon, however, places much heavier emphasis on his reputation as a playboy early on while softening or omitting many of the circumstances that created that version of him.

The irony of the story is that Ines chose Carcel because she believed he would never love her deeply enough to ruin her plans yet he ended up loving her more sincerely than anyone else across all her timelines.
