Still a driving force within society that is still apparent to this day. Orientalism has eventually evolved over the years to continue perpetuating this idea of the "docile, subservient, yet exotic" Asian and in doing it aims to lessen the true impact that Asians do face racism discrimination in Western society, however it is watered down. I curren......   1 reply

Great question, OP! To me? Hash browns (the kind where the potatoes are diced up with peppers and simmered in oil with salt and pepper), boiled eggs, grits, beef sausage (the thick fat ones, not the link round ones) and buttered toast. Mug of tea to the side and you're good to go. Or Huevos rancheros: corn tortillas (made from corn flour/water/egg......   reply

I hate how quick things are: I mean this in terms of development of a self within the characters. From my own limited experience, there is a very strong prevalence in BL in which main characters are presumed straight or hetero and then just because another character confesses to them, they suddenly skip straight into acceptance but it's so surface ......   2 reply

Do you guys know any manga/manwha/manga (of any genre, straight, gay (bl/gl) or no romance where the MC actually does follow through on something they know? Like if they want to escape/leave a situation, do you know any manga where MC DOES get up out of there? Or if the MC is determined to NOT get involved in.the plot or with a certain "protagonist", do you know any where they actually mind their own business?

Hi! I have a friend who's going to study abroad in Shanghai China with a uni program pretty soon. If anybody on this site has lived there or is from there or has family there, are there any things I should warn him of? I've already told him to stick to the area around the university, to have a translating app at all times (surprisingly enough the courses he's going to learn there are introductory level.language courses which makes no sense to me but), and to make sure he performs a currency exchange. I told him to avoid clubbing as well unless he goes with his classmates. He's worried that people will treat him badly (he's 6'2, Black) because a friend told him that people may avoid talking to him or getting to know him due to issues with ancestry/saying it would piss off the ancestors, and that people still view visitors as "outsiders". I don't know anything about any cultural customs or beliefs, he's still planning on going and having a good time, please let me know anything that may make him feel less worried about going! If you have any websites with tips to recommend, please definitely let me know! If you also have studied abroad in Shanghai, feel free to respond as well! Thank you, I hope this post doesn't come off as insensitive, I am being genuine.
