Oftentimes, it's not actually a matter of trans representation, but more about a BL/Yaoi author wanting to avoid the physical aspect of a gay relationship and instead drawing a gay man with a vagina as a way to make it as "straight" as possible. Compare it to shows like Bridgerton or The Summer I Turned Pretty, and you'll find they're pretty similar in terms of "depth" and "spice."
