I found myself reading ‘predatory marriage’ just 5mins ago and gave up 6 chapters in. I saw that some also brought out abt how problematic and racist it is to have a dark skinned be characterized as ‘beasts’ ‘uncivilized’… after reading kedamono arashi wherein they have a black character with locs, it’s a really big gap I’m seeing right now.
I would also like to point out that SOME of the mangas here has size kink glittered upon the characters (may be the authors kink, idk). It just irks me how they emphasize so much abt how thin a character is, but then at the end, they don’t make her not look malnourish (coming from someone who is one). Idk I js want outside opinion abt this cuz I was discussing this to a friend but they had a bed curfew so they slept early…
11" waist y/n weighted 25 kg and is 4'7" tall has an obsessive 6'8" rich prince with 10" long 7" girth d*ck and 8 pack abs obsessed with her.
how unique -_-. oh, did i mention he's tan so obviously he is a beast and animalistic with uncontrollable lust but only for her you see. he only lovers her. now what shall she do because she is so frail that she even flies away when someone opens the door and the wind gushes in and accidentally falls into the guy's lap and notices that something is pressing hard against her behind....oh! he has a smirk on his face as well? oh no.....
oh definitely, and she's defined as a very strong character, but the only thing that's probably strong is her back bc she god 38DD cups despite her small frame. she is made out to be a real good fighter and very intelligent but sees the ml saying 'bonjour' and she doesn't understand and ultimately deems ml as more intellingent than her ofc, and immediately blushes and her panties get so wet and flowy that the people start coming to take pictures bc they thought that niagara falls were also transported here. and whenever she fights and wins it's always against some other woman who was also supposed to be a good fighter but also was accidentally running a high fever and had a fracture in her leg but that's not important bc it's none of y/n's problem and she obviously must have won bc she's even more fighter than her. but when she was faced with ml in a fight, bc of course they're enemies they must be, how can y/n ever have liked any man, she doesn't even know what a p*nis is and she js assumes the ml has a scroll in his pants bc he's trying to be a performative reader. she loses to ml in 0.1 second bc ml pulled out some random technique which was miraculously her only weak point as a fighter.
omg why did i have so much fun dissing this y/n T_T
Not to get into it too deeply, but it's a cultural preference. Dark skin isn't seen as something to want as it is seen as a person in a low social caste; someone who works outside (farming, construction...) which darkens their skin. Then there are stories/fables of people getting their skin darkened when they turned evil and other stuff. Of course, there is also the racial aspect, but, like I said, I'm not getting too deep in it.
Small face/small waist: Again seen as a social and cultural thing. Small face is considered a high beauty standard in most Asian countries. Small waist means you're socially high in society where you have time to take care of your body; basically meaning you have money. Plus, again, it's a cultural preference for beauty. (Like above there another culturally deeper meaning that is too controversial for me to even consider getting into it; much less typing it out.)
TL;DR: Different cultural beauty standards.
Wait, why are we not getting deep into it? There’s definitely a lot of factors as to why there’s so many dark skinned characters that are defined animalistic (or anything that perceives them as inhuman uncivilized people) paired with paper white pure innocent character. It’s just that predatory marriage explicitly and shamelessly displays that trope.
I mean yea, I am aware of the ‘darker skin toned people in the korea are associated with being poor because you have to work labour hours wnd stuff. But that’s the problem. It’s a stigma, a stereotype that became an insult for the people.
okay im asian (south asian, i live in india) so i wanna give my 2 cents. here in india, fair skin = ideal beauty. this came from colonialism when british invaded us, treated us like dogshit and preached the white is better BS. not to mention, it's an agrarian country (and alot of asian countries are, farms and all) so working outside, and with it being a country closer to equator, skin has melanin and we get tanned easily. so tan + melanin = darker skin color in general. not to say that indians can't have fair skin, heck i think india is the most diverse country when it comes to skin color or culture. but this whole "white is pretty" comes from the british rule, and also, the previous invaders as well. the royalty remains inside the palaces, doens't have to work outside more, has more access to beauty / grooming products, so they tended to be fairer. (not everytime, ofc, skin color can't be changed, you can js change if you have tan or not). then this whole "caucasian gene/white supremacy/eurocentric beauty standards" which is actually prevalent not only in india but in lot of other asian countries. also, being fair is seen as pure (mostly) so you appear innocent when you're fairer, have more childlike features. (neotonous beauty, search it) then ofcourse you must know PURITY CULTURE. we love a good purity culture here in our india. sex? what's that? women don't know this. premarital sex? ew who does that? not the women of "good houses". men can sow their seeds wherever as long as they don't get a woman pregnant and being home a child. (if you're a rich man you can, being an illegitimate child and you can treat them as servants as well!! ) atleast what used to be in the past. i am not trying to "defend" my country and go hush hush bc it HAPPENS! im sick of it. women are berated for as long as speaking in front of others and putting forward their opinions, for the longest time, if you're a girl, be pretty, stay silent, get married to a person your parents choose, learn some "hobbies" and study (optional but will be judged if you're TOO educated or NOT educated at all, the "too educated" is vague and so is "not educated at all") basically, if you're a woman, too bad, DIE. there used to be so many female infanticide cases in india that gender identification whole being preg is illegal now. no problem though, people will keep producing girls until a boy is born. you'll see 1 income middle class households with 5 children (or more) where the youngest is the son, and rest all daughters. omg sorry for bringing sexism, lmao. no, but if you have daughters, you gotta marry them off. and if you want your daughter to get married, what's important? yes, her to be pretty. you see, india has the CULTURE of arranged marriages, always had. love? ew don't fall in love. if you do fall in love, please love someone from your own caste !! (ooh yeah casteism baby, we getting into controversial stuff now!!) so casteism is (kinda sorta) prevalent. ie. we love classifying ourselves into little boxes. you ain't like us mentality. it started as a normal "job" thingy you see, we got 4 castes- brahman(scholar/academia), kshatriya (royalty/soldiers,fighters), vaishya(businessmen/farmers),shudra(labour and service providers /misc.) now this was horizontal difference scale, you are what you choose to do, a brahmin's child can become kshatriya if he's a soldier....but you know, familiarity, children tend to take occupation close to their family work, so... now brahmans were the scholars, so some of the evil ones started tweaking ancient texts and changing its meaning to suit their agenda. and long story short, casteism, ie. marry within your caste. with time each caste got sub castes and then small small subsubcastes as well. we all find a group to bully, human tendency. so boom! we get vertical hierarchy. now brahmans/kshatriyas---upper caste. vaishya/shudra---lower caste. upper caste do not even like to so as touch the lower caste(hence, untouchables)...long time of torture for lower castes. oh, back to topic, upper castes were brahmana, scholars, knowledge, stay indoor, teachers types, so they get less tan...all that. they weren't really all that rich though (initially atleast), so they were "fair", kshatriyas were tan, but "strong", but yeah, animalistic, pride, faithful...all that characteristics got associated with them. so either be "tall dark and handsome" or be fair and knowledgeable. 2 options to get accepted in society, but brahmans don't marry in kshatriyas unless royalty/rich things.
anyway, casteism is "illegal" in india now, but the though processs remains. it's not as brutal now, atleast in big cities, but subtle/sometimes on your face casteism still remains esp in marriage domain. like yeah we'll talk to "lower castes" or whatever, but we don't marry them, no how dare you?
now not all indians do that esp not modern indians i assume, but most do engage in it. even if it's a joke thing. and also, we got something called "reservation", which means in govt colleges, jobs, schools, hospitals, anything that's public (operated by either central or state govt.) they have a certain percentage reserved for people from scheduled castes. it got a little problem you see though. bc of this reservation, rich people from scheduled caste who do not need this, they also get reservation. kids can't get into govt colleges (if they're not from sched caste) while kids who got every other facility but are from sched caste they get in with lower criterion for grades. I couldn't even qualify level 1 of an exam with 76% in that exam while a girl i know from sched caste got into the college with 50% in that level 1. we were from same school, similar parental bg. so yes, general (non sched caste students/people) have to grind their ass off, while reserved castes people can kind of slack it off and still get into the job market you see. this "reservation" was for the betterment for lower castes initially, but now it's kind of a pain in the ass and does nothing but build resentment in youth. there are moments I have felt rage bc of this stupidly implemented system bc it's unfair for general people who are still poor. or can't get into something despite being qualified. that's why you'll see lots of Indians overseas in good positions, chances are they're mainly "upper caste", they left india not bc they want to, it's js they see an opportunity there which they'll never get in india cuz some reserved caste mf already took it with their half assed efforts (not saying they don't work hard, but the level ground is diff). so reservation did the opposite of what it intended to do, remove casteism. they js gave us new reasons to hate.
this turned to essay from colonialism to beauty standards to casteism haha. HOLY YAP! but yeah, this is the jist of it.
fair is seen as pretty bc it shows privilege bc you're not a farmer/some worker who "works" for others. you're either pure knowledgeable, or a fighter loyal to country. so it's pretty privilege that comes from judgemental society. oh and misogyny as well. since women have more pressure to be fair and pure than men.
Yea I’m filo so Trust I know how much western beauty standards effect the people, especially women here in my country. Some women get themselves injected with glutathione (mostly rich ppl) js so they can achieve paper white skin tone. But that’s the problem, being aware of the whole system that is affecting the lives of the people solely because their skin has more melanin and not acknowledging it and calling out people who spread the same belief is js as bad as the people who don’t see colorism as a bad thing.
My only thoughts on these types of tropes wherein dark skinned characters are depicted as aggressive and had animalistic traits harm the people in reality. I believe in the saying ‘you are what you consume’ and consuming media that displays these types of stereotypes that harm a certain population can and will brainwash people into thinking the same and applying it to real life people.
I’m not gonna inject my own experiences as a morena (brown skinned) since this is gonna be a whole ass rant about me and me only, but i feel like we’re js going in circles instead of actually meeting to a point. I know that there are some good mangas out there that depicts dark skinned people as complex and not the stereotypical traits, but I don’t think they are appreciated just as much as these fetish books does.
Anyway, I saw a yt rant video abt Predatory Marriage and I js want to share it since it laid out many points that I’m too lazy to type (mb lol).

Yes, I didn't watch that video, even though I have not read predatory marriage and will probably never read. (I did want to read it bc IshaKan is like, FINE SHYT 10/10 BADDIE #needthat) But I just like his character design, and not how they're portrayed. Also, I do not like a romance/josei where the woman is shown very frail, young, or essentially "childlike" HELL NAAH DON'T FW ME! A bit of neotenous features are okay, but it gets to a point T_T. I can't relate or even enjoy their characters and end up feeling "damn the ML deserve better wtf she be doing man!" T_T. But, I'm just rambling. As I said, I didn't read this manhwa, so I don't know shit about what intricacies are going on. But SK is very racist and honestly, mainly unaware of middle-eastern and south-asian culture. Not only are they unaware, they're tone deaf and ignorant about it too. So I never really expected a Korean Manhwa to depict tanned south asian "seemingly", in correct light. It's probably a hetero-goon manhwa for many, I guess.
Why is the pink haired bottom build like a shotacon lmao
