Like, don’t get me wrong, finding love again after a shitty marriage is great and all, but does EVERY divorced FL have to end up with another man to achieve her happy ending?! I swear, sometimes it feels like the moment these FLs get divorced, the universe immediately spawns a new man for them to fall in love with. GIRL, CAN YOU BREATHE FIRST??? Can you enjoy your newfound freedom for five freaking minutes before another man comes into your life? Why can’t a woman’s happy ending just be HER being happy?!! Why does she have to find another man to prove that she’s finally moved on and is living her best life? Can’t she just live peacefully, pursue her dreams, travel, make money, spend time with the people she loves, and enjoy her freedom WITHOUT ROMANCE BEING THROWN INTO THE MIX???

And I’m especially pissed because I JUST finished reading a manhwa with this exact plot. The FL literally wanted to live a peaceful life somewhere far away with her maid after getting divorced from her trash ex-husband. THAT WAS IT. GIRL JUST WANTED SOME PEACE AND QUIET!! BUT NOOOOO. Of course, the ML had to come along and get in the freaking way. AND THE WORST PART? BOTH MALE LEADS AREN’T EVEN WORTH ROOTING FOR. LIKE, AT ALL. BOTH OF THEM CAN GO STRAIGHT TO THE TRASH BIN FOR ALL I CARE. And yet, because apparently the FL’s story can’t be complete without a romantic relationship, she just HAS to fall in love with one of these undeserving a-holes? FOR WHAT?! WHAT DID WE DO TO DESERVE THIS?!!

I’m so tired of stories acting like a woman escaping a miserable marriage is just the first step toward finding a better man, as if the ultimate reward for surviving a shitty relationship is getting into another one. WHAT ABOUT THE FREEDOM SHE FOUGHT FOR? WHAT ABOUT THE PEACE SHE WANTED? WHAT ABOUT HER DREAMS THAT DON’T INVOLVE A MAN? I WANT TO SEE A DIVORCED FL WHO FINALLY GETS TO LIVE THE LIFE SHE HAS ALWAYS WANTED. LET HER BUY A HOUSE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE. LET HER OPEN A LITTLE SHOP. LET HER TRAVEL THE WORLD WITH HER MAID OR HER FRIENDS. LET HER ENJOY HER MONEY AND HER FREEDOM. LET HER WAKE UP EVERY MORNING WITHOUT HAVING TO DEAL WITH SOME MAN’S FEELINGS OR DRAMA.

AND PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, LET HER STAY SINGLE AT THE END!!! TOT

Romance is great when it’s actually good, but sometimes I just want a story where the FL’s character development isn’t centered around a man, whether it’s her ex-husband or her new love interest. Anyway, sorry for the rant. I’m just genuinely so frustrated because I really wanted this FL to get the peaceful life she dreamed of, and the story had to ruin it by shoving romance into the plot.

I remember reading “I Stole the Male Lead’s First Night” back in high school and LORDDDD I felt such a strong similarity with the FL and the way she thought and made decisions. Like, girl, if I were in your situation, I’d literally do the same thing LOL. I think that was probably what made me so connected and obsessed with the story back then.
