I like how he conversation about the man who turned into a tiger was foreshadowing, cause the MC was never warned about it until the mother gave the warning. She wanted to watch the MC succeed but be shackled by that scholarship, and even potentially end up like the man did. She didn’t push for it or against it though. Offering help but never enough to fix things or change things. Just to prolong them. Create false hope.
I also like how the beach scene is recontextualized. The mom was worried the MC would get drowned lol. At first it seemed like the mother wanted to live through her daughter, and was just possessive of her and a helicopter parent, but then it turned out she was just trying to make sure her daughter didn’t do anything bad. She’s not perfect but damn, I wasn’t expecting that twist. It kind of foreshadowed the daughter was off though quite a bit. Even just looking at the interactions. She never interjected to either’s benefit, like during the argument.
Really well done character interactions.
I can’t believe they just casually dropped the fact that Halebob was straight up brainwashed and is the sole reason Santa Industries even managed to exist. Dude really sacrifices himself in his final moments for everyone. He didn’t try to do anything to save himself or ensure his own survival, he really gave it all for his juniors. Crazy how that persisted past the brainwashing too. He seemed like a pos but not the absolute worst to begin with, and now we learn that’s because he wasn’t one to begin with.
Man that’s so tragic. Halebob wasn’t the hero they deserved he was the one they needed.
Yessssss!!! I went from absolute hating him to feeling so so bad for him and it feels SO unfair how his story wrapped up...even if it would be hard for the public to accept him his teammates should've absolutely been waaaaaay more grateful...not whatever the pink haired lady offered him at the end...his sacrifice and dedication really moved and surprised me...my man deserved better
The craziest part is that no one knows, or will remember. He will never be remembered for his ultimate sacrifice and heroism, only the evil he was forced to become by the brainwashing.
I loved how this work looked, wish it didn’t fall off so hard. Strong start too. Why is it that works like these always end up over focusing on the romance towards the end? Really kills it tbh.

So? My point was that it over focused on it. Romance is but a piece to a story like this, and the path it took the romance down is also genuinely not great. This was not structured like a romance story from the start, and it did not capitalize on its original foundation and setting pieces once it began to drift into the romance arc. There are a lot of other manwha and manga that capitalize far better on the romance aspects of their stories and their plotlines. This one is an example of one that began great, had good art, but then fumbled.
This is also from an era where this sort of plot type was newer, so people didn’t know how to give it a conclusion, or a follow through. One of the issues is that it has a clear base premise and starting conflict, but then it doesn’t know what to do after resolving the initial premise or ideas. Which leads to a stagnation in the plotline and a dilution of the story.
You have to actually analyze and look at the story. A story like this is not a pure romance story either, the romance only begins very late into it, and despite all the possible romance options it chooses the worst possible one. Pretty much everyone hates how the romance plotline in this panned out, since it did ruin the story.
It has a romance tag is not a valid excuse, and peoppe enjoying romance isn’t either. It ignores every bit of context or nuance to what I said without thought, especially since those who enjoy romance plots also aren’t enjoying this story or those that have similar issues. It doesn’t even start out as romance, and the romance doesn’t pay off, because it ends up overly focused on it and because it ended up being very hasty and rushed in.

I’m glad! It’s really a shame since it starts off pretty strong and has some strong story beats just to get ruined in the latter half. This was one of my favorites until the chapter releases started taking certain turns.
Since immortality is so difficult to crack, I bet Irantes didn’t crack it, but is instead stealing the life force of others. That’s just a theory though!

Maybe? Who knows maybe they even recycle the corpses of mages that died in the exams. I won't even be surprised if they're using commoners as an ingredient for their 'immortality'.
Using common folks and unlucky mages seems to be the closest answer, I mean it aligns with their character. I just hope that Riley and mc kills them in a oh so painful way
Funny enough it was the manwha with Sigrid that made me think about it. Also, is the Grimoire the MC or Riley when you think about it? It’s Riley’s story with the grimoire, out of every adventure and person he’s been wielded by. Just food for thought.
This is, just really good. It’s style is simple but it conveys so many things. Really hits as somebody around thsi age. Going through things similar to some of these characters. It feels real.
You know, ever since the focus shifted more and more off Nomamoto, it’s been easy to portray her in a certain light but I just realized she really didn’t come off as so psychopathic in the beginning. In fact she’s only 17 at the start of the story, cut ties with her cruddy family, working a dead end job where she gets physically assaulted and abused. It’s also apparent aliens are pretty physically strong, and occasionally knock her around in public.
Ever since she first ate an alien though, it sort of became like an addiction. Like clearly she’s different in some way, but maybe eating aliens is the main root and cause of it outside just her origins. Like, we lost a lot of her inner dialogue and thoughts after a certain point. Which was probably on purpose.
It’s just interesting though, because now we see her the same was as the other characters do, when in the beginning it was always her motivations and side of things we got first. Now we don’t get that. Instead we see the side of “oh I projected my sister onto her” and an entirely different context to the beginning of the story. Because now it’s not focused on Nomamoto anymore but the drama of the people around her, and their motivations.
Like we haven’t had a Nomamoto thought bubble in a while I feel like. It’s kinda funny cause we see the delusional hallucinations of the people around her, which she’s not privy to. Then we just see her in the background, no idea what’s going on inside her head.
It’s not like she is actually a simple character. We know she has more deep and complex thinking because of the beginning of the story. She can even find puppies cute and doom scroll puppy photos to try and ignore being hungry.
We just see what she’s doing. Or saying. But what is she thinking during some of these moments? Like when she interrupted the gun thing on the ship. She had no idea what was going through his head!
this was actually something I was really upset about!!!! she more or less just turned into a plot device, which at the start didn't feel like the authors intent at ALL!!
it's like, it was a pretty good manga and 100% a fresh take but the fact the main character gets sidelined etc, is so freaking annoying. like she wasn't even the mc in the end. (╬￣皿￣)凸
obvi not the end end, but you get what I mean. I really really hope the author shines a proper light on her again, I think I'm personally just frustrated as it was a long arc and then there's nothing about her (for clarification.)
I think it was on purpose. Like if you think about it in a way, it’s like Nomamoto became an alien to the audience over time. We no longer have any idea what she’s thinking or why she does things. We only see the same surface level that the other characters have been seeing unlike in the beginning, all for this moment where Nomamoto reasserts herself as the main character.
I think the author is commenting on how people wallowing in self misery fail to see anything outside of it. While Nomamoto has been through things, she doesn’t put others through it, she doesn’t wallow in it, she finds a way to enjoy herself.
It’s kind of interesting, but I am excited to see Nomamoto take the spotlight again
