Could someone please make an enquiry specifically for Korean BL authors, asking only one question: Do you hate gay men?
The art is beautiful and the storyline is relatively good, but the uncontrollable and explicit r*pe scenes make it unreadable. They are not depicted as disgusting or dangerous. It's straight-up romanticisation of domestic violence in its most brutal form.
(I, at this point, have developed my own conspiracy theory as to why so many stories romanticise abusive relationships.)
P.S. stop sending these crazy mfs to Germany, send them to mental health facilities or even better, to jail.
I started reading yaoi a year ago and had such a lucky start with Semantic Error, Countdown to Love (still one of my faves), Reunion, Define the Relationship, Here U Are, Our Sunny Days, The Dangerous Convinience Store, Honbul, even my first guidverse and omegaverse yaoi stories were so heartwarming. My first red flag manhwa was Low Tide in Twilight (recommended by tiktok BTW, never trusting it again) and I still hate it with everything I've got. It's getting so hard to find good stories without rape and I'm not even saying that problematic topics should be completely omitted or anything, just don't romanticise this shih and don't make mc-s stay with their rapists.
I also noticed that many seasoned yaoi fans say, that new readers complain too much about rape and if one can't handle it they should stop reading yaoi altogether. But wtf, how did they got so desensitised??
I don't get their mentality either. As you said stories need to have different themes but the sheer number of rape turned lover trope is astounding. I wouldn't want that trope to happen to anyone else. so as i empathize with the characters i get frustrated when i read such stories. I hate jinx and kiss me liar and similar stories bc i doesnt show much progress on both characters and the power imbalance is sickening. And through in a week ass, spineless little thinks for uke and it gets me irritated for the rest of my days until I can find something like dangerous convenience store. But at the same time, steel under silk(albeit them going in circles) and Hounds of sisyphus has something more than just rape and sex.
A bit late to the convo but I started in 2020, my first read was Cherry Blossoms after winter which was a good start for a beginner bl manhwa reader, it was not A rated then and was pretty tame, it turned 18+ around season 3 ig (I am not reading the new arc as of now because it isn't as good)
After that it all went downhill, I read yours to claim (which aged like milk), Killing stalking (not a romance but physcological and disturbing which is a no no for someone who wasn't even 16 back then), BJ Alex (again, glorifying coercion).
There were many other bad japanese Yaoi manga i don't remember the name of with concerning premises.
I also had found a few gems like Sign, Here U are, Salad days, The new Employee and ten years I loved you the most (I have still not recovered from it and I don't think I can ever read it again, not because it's badly written but because it's so beautiful in its tragedy that I simply can't handle it again)
But yeah, i didn't know back then that some of these glorified r*pe and coercion, so there's that.
They didn't get desensitised, I'm a pretty seasoned Yaoi reader, they simply translate it into their own little fantasies, those kind of manhwas are simply FAP material for readers who like to imagine themselves in such scenarios, if you go and take a look at thier lists it will be filled to the brim with such trash.
Oh yeah, Kiss me Liar is the worst of the worst offender, the fact it shows and points out r*pe but completely normalises it, along with downright forcing the mc to carry the baby to the point said mc had to run away and because the mc is just that spineless, he ends up keeping the baby instead because why not tie yourself to an abusive bastard? I quite like Hounds of Sisyphus because the seme and uke are both kinda like red flags and it has more to it than simply sex and ownership, the mc seems to be good at manipulation too and is a little crazy in the head which I like.
I don't remember what my expectations were when I came here, but raising awareness about class consciousness was certainly not on my bingo card.
It was a gut-wrenching read, and the fact that similar or even worse things really happen in our world made it an even worse reading experience for me. 10/10
<DELIBERATELY HAVING A CHILD WITH A R*PIST MAKES YOU A BAD PARENT>
Mind you I'm not victim blaming. Eunhyun could not done anything in his first r*pe pregnancy and he did not even want to keep the child. I would not condemned him if he wanted to keep it. HOWEVER, after all the disrespect, physical, sexual, verbal, financial, mental and emotional abuse still to choose your pimp/creditor/abuser/r*pist, who failed as a trustworthy partner several times, as a father of your child is beyond my understanding. Are korean manhwa authors OK??
I could never imagine to say that, but in comparison with Taeju jinx's Jerkyung is a saint incarnated and I'm saying this as a person who hates his guts.

How tf is this normal? Imagine you have two childhood friends who you'd trust with your life and they are constantly RAPING you the moment you get drunk without any REMORSE!!! and as if THE SHITTY PLOT were not enough it's even written in a COMICAL tone.
Why is this fuckshittery normalised??
There is weird fantasy slop in every genre if it’s not for you don’t read
That's some f-ed up thing to say about rape depicted as something "funny and helpful" but what makes you happy I guess.
Thank you my dear finally I see some common sense of a reaction down here damn these reactions are wild...
Indeed we can't normalize rape!
