I am the only picky eater in my family. I mainly eat foods I grew up with, and if I stop eating a food for a long time, I often develop an aversion to it. I totally understand your feelings. From 3rd to 10 grade I was one of the class toppers and I was pretty proud of it. But after 10th grade I changed schools, every students studying in that school were toppers. I couldn't keep up and kept falling behind. From a class topper i became an average performer.
