The only reason it was cancelled is because the author and everyone behind the manga didn't want to have to deal in the future with all the inept people who would scrutinize every last detail just to have something to complain about and feel attacked, or have to be the knights in shining armor defending the weak and misunderstood in their eyes.
Just shut up
People are allowed to criticize a story they find offensive. That’s not the same thing as “harassment.”
If a story builds a romance around a Black slave and a white master using a real history of slavery, people are naturally going to have strong reactions. That’s a predictable consequence of choosing such a sensitive subject.
The author also had every right to withdraw the project if they didn’t want to deal with the backlash. That was their decision. But readers also had every right to say they found the premise offensive. Criticism isn’t censorship just because you disagree with it.
No one is entitled to a positive reception, especially when a story uses a real history of racial oppression as the foundation for a romance. Freedom to create also means people are free to criticize what you create.
What are you talking about? Even in the first comments here, they were organizing a boycott to go and mess with the author's official page.
They pretend to respect opinions, but when people disagree, they act like they have the entitlement to make demands, regurgitating the same argument over and over. As if they couldn't just ignore it and leave it to the people who actually have the capacity to understand and realize that not everything is black and white. They're also asking for the first chapter to be deleted and dare to say that's not censorship.
If you're thin-skinned and lack the resilience to even grasp the idea of a possible fictional story about an interracial couple set in a time of slavery, then you should shut your mouth and go to therapy instead of complaining.
Bitch You’re conflating criticism, boycotts, and harassment as if they’re all the same thing—they aren’t.
If some people harassed the author personally, I don’t support that. Personal attacks and harassment are wrong.
But publicly criticizing a story, refusing to support it, or organizing a boycott because people find the premise offensive isn’t automatically censorship. Consumers have always been free to decide what they do or don’t want to support.
And the issue was never “an interracial couple.” Most people weren’t objecting because the couple was interracial. They were objecting because the romance centered on a master/slave relationship rooted in a real history of racial oppression. Those are two very different things.
If this had simply been an interracial romance in the 19th century, there likely wouldn’t have been the same level of backlash. The controversy came from using a system of slavery and colonial oppression as the backdrop for the romance, not from interracial love itself.
You don’t have to agree with that criticism, but dismissing everyone who disagrees as “needing therapy” doesn’t address the actual concerns people raised.
And of course, criticism is welcome, but that's not all they did. Do you read through your own butt cheeks?
They also keep repeating the same thing in every response and justification: "We're too sensitive and mentally unstable to let the rest of the world decide what to consume." Which makes no sense. Go sort out your mental farts. If your sensitivity is so inflexible, get help, and maybe someday you'll have an ounce of resilience.
Are you kidding me? We could have had Brokeback Mountain in the 19th century! The author shouldn't have given in. The story hadn't even started and they were already speculating and getting paranoid about their own self-inflicted traumas. I'm not talking about a specific demographic, but about all the mentally deficient people who try to dictate their delusions to average people who can actually differentiate between reality and fiction.
if they really wanted to and were confident in delivering on the story they wanted to tell, the creator would have continued. plenty of creators ignore negative feedback and reactions all the time.
i don't think the creator of this had any consciously racist intentions, but the setup of this work did not inspire confidence that it would handle the racial dynamics of the story well. as a result of feedback, the creator recognized their limitations (or the publisher simply didn't want the flack) and dropped the work. chances are that the series was appearing financially risky and wasn't going to make enough money to be worth it for the publishing platform and so they were looking out for their financial bottom line. regardless of the reason, now the creator can rework this or come out with something else that better plays to their strengths with less chance of being misunderstood (assuming that's what happened here).
Obviously, that's the speech the PR had to give the author to try and calm the horde of psychos with the backlash they must have received.
And why did it become risky? If they're already behaving insanely here, imagine the pressure they must have been under.
If someone is looking for racial dynamics to be offended by in a BL manga, I don't know what to tell you, my friend. Re-evaluate your life, go do some self-discovery on a relief mission in Africa or something.
Are you mad?
You’re comparing two completely different things.
Brokeback Mountain wasn’t a romance between a Black slave and a white slave owner. It didn’t romanticize chattel slavery or use a real system of racial oppression as the foundation of the love story. That’s why the comparison doesn’t work.
The criticism wasn’t just “it’s fiction.” The criticism was that the story used a real history where millions of Black people were enslaved, tortured, raped, separated from their families, and killed because of their race, then built a romance around a master/slave relationship with a white savior dynamic.
Calling people’s concerns “self-inflicted trauma” or “delusions” is dismissive. You don’t have to agree with the criticism, but people have every right to be uncomfortable with a story that romanticizes a real historical atrocity.
No one is saying fiction can’t explore difficult topics. The question is whether those topics are handled thoughtfully, and many readers felt this one wasn’t.
this isn't to disagree or oppose what you said but just in the interest of not misrepresenting things and making sure we all have our facts straight, the ml in this is supposed to be mixed-heritage Native/indigenous, not Black, and probably wasn't enslaved. nevermind that he looks very ethnically and culturally vague... lol. it doesn't detract from the oddity and likely (even unintended!) racism of the creator choosing to focus on this kind of interracial couple in this setting and time period and having the ml call himself a slave like that, even sarcastically, since European settlers did initially try enslaving the indigenous populations of the Americas in earlier times.
Thanks for pointing that out. If the ML is actually Indigenous rather than Black, I appreciate the correction—I don’t want to misrepresent the story.
That said, my overall concern doesn’t really change. Whether the ML is Black or Indigenous, the story is still using a historical context where European colonialism and racial oppression were very real. Indigenous peoples also experienced dispossession, forced labor, violence, and enslavement under colonial rule.
So my criticism isn’t based solely on the character’s race. It’s that the story builds a romance around a master/slave dynamic rooted in a real history of colonial oppression. I can understand why many readers would find that premise uncomfortable, regardless of whether the ML is Black or Indigenous.
...the Breakback Mountain thing was a cowboy joke, no comparison. The fact that you don't understand humor explains a lot.
Besides, we only had a small glimpse of the history and you're already writing fanfiction in your heads and getting PTSD about wars that never even happened.
(wars in the figurative sense, in case that needs clarifying)
Whether you meant the Brokeback Mountain reference as a joke or not, you still used it to dismiss the criticism people had about the story. My point remains the same: the controversy wasn’t about two men falling in love in the 19th century. It was about using a master/slave dynamic within a real history of colonialism and racial oppression as the basis for a romance.
No one needs to “write fan fiction” to recognize why that premise makes people uncomfortable. The setting itself carries historical baggage. Readers don’t have to wait for every chapter to come out before deciding they’re not interested in supporting a story because of its premise. That’s true for any work of fiction.
And disagreeing with a premise isn’t “PTSD” or proof that someone “doesn’t understand humor.” It’s simply criticism. You’re free to think the criticism is unfair, and other people are equally free to think the premise is in poor taste.
That's the point, mentally stable people understand time and space, so they can separate the setting of the story from the course of the romance that will be the main FOCUS.
Because they know they're consuming fiction, they know slavery is wrong, they know certain behaviors can be frowned upon and THEY can consume it objectively.
If you feel uncomfortable with that, then turn the page and go back to your bubble and let people who don't live solely through a screen enjoy it.
You can criticize it, but in the end, you all want to censor it. damned fascists
what censorship?
the market spoke up, gave feedback, and rejected the product, so the producer pulled it from the marketplace because they want to continue making money.
if you want the series back, you're going to have to make the case to the publisher that there's more money to be made in bringing it back.
Bitch You’re assuming that anyone who criticizes a story is incapable of separating fiction from reality. That’s not true.
I can recognize something is fiction and still think its premise is in poor taste. Those aren’t mutually exclusive. People criticize films, books, games, and comics all the time because of how they portray real historical events or sensitive topics.
Also, criticism isn’t censorship. I don’t have the power to ban the story, and neither do most of the readers who voiced their opinions. Choosing not to support a work and explaining why isn’t fascism—it’s part of public discussion.
You say people who are uncomfortable should “turn the page.” Many of them did. They also explained why they weren’t interested in reading it. That’s their right, just as it’s your right to enjoy it.
Freedom of expression goes both ways. The author was free to create the story. Readers were free to criticize it. Calling everyone who disagrees with you “fascists” doesn’t change that.
you don’t think? but that’s exactly what the author said in her apology you can create theory about “conforming to the public” and whine and cry all day about how the author did not mean what she said at all yadahyadah but at the end of the days its all theory you made in your head, it’s not real, you don’t know what the author is thinking you don’t know shit about whats going on. The only insight is her apology note nothing else, so you can stop with your non sense theory and touch some grass schizophrenic ahh
heavy on the think for “MYSELF” please, because as ive said u aint the author, you dont know anything u dont know what shes thinking at all, while using theory u made up in ur head to criticize other that uses the ACTUAL apology the AUTHOR herself made as an apology. I never said opinions and criticism were never welcome, I never said u were “brain short-circuits” whatever that means, seems like mega projection, but if u enjoy calling urself stupid i dont mind
always more mature than someone who’s so desperate for degenerate gay porn that theyd camp in an illegal website for several days to cry and whine fyi u can sit here and try to be the “concept” police all u want but it wont make this shitty story comeback and wont make any of ur schizophrenic thought come alive.
It gets tedious quickly with exposition dump after exposition dump. All we see are people sitting around or talking on the phone, feeding us information. At that point, I really don't give a damn about these people's lives because it's boring to watch them just talk about it.
That being said, I like the couple, I just wish the omega wasn't such a wet noodle.
review excluding extras:
That was the phrase "I'll fuck you till you love me" in manga format, quite disturbing if put into action. Basically, it's lacking; the seme's entire modus operandi was just rape and then, for some unknown reason, obsession with the uke.
The uke was only there to "fix" the seme with the power of his anus and Cinderella-like existence. At no point was there anything other than sexual relations. There's no development in getting to know each other on an individual level.
In the end, all that remains is a feeling of dependence and the superficial justification of alpha and omega. I mean, you can do that, but don't try to sell it to me like it's a fairy tale. (I'm referring to the people who try to recommend and defend it.)
It's just a rather immature and juvenile idea put into action and justified with ignorance and inexperience.
But if you're interested in that kind of story, I think this is one that at least puts some effort into it, so
oddly drawn to this story because of the suffering that euihyun goes through and his resilience. his struggles with his mental health + taehyun genuinely caring about it fills a void for me. and yea, it js feels nice to see someone care so much for someone else.
but ofc this is an extremely flawed story and shouldn't be considered romantic. in theory, this seems fine, but in real life this is abusive and no one who previous treated their partner like shit will suddenly 180 and dedicate every aspect of their life to them. this is what abuse victims THINK is happening, when theyre really js getting love bombed </3
I always find it absurd when people try to solve such complicated problems with the power of "love" and, of course, the prince charming who comes with financial stability so that everything magically works out.
It doesn't seem like the guy has any option to help himself; he's just trapped in someone else's bubble.
I also think that for over 80% of the story, the poor guy is just trying to deal with this psycho who comes to torture him physically and mentally whenever he wants.
I'd have to switch my brain off to the next level if I want to find that charming.
Only in the first two chapters. No matter how the story continues or if there's a redemption arc, it won't change the fact that they're giving the rapist a happy ending. And if you think about the way he raped the uke, I have no doubt that he could have done it hundreds of times before to other people as if it were nothing (I know that's speculation and indulging in imagination and delusion, but it's also using logic)
Also, the uke rationalizing murdering a toddler in one of the most terrifying ways possible lol
I've been holding back the cringe until now, but what the hell is with the uke throwing himself in front of the knife to stop the seme from getting stabbed, instead of just punching the guy with the knife if he's already there? What a stupid guy. I hate these troop of ukes with no self-respect and no common sense.
And the shoes he wears are ugly!

If all these unhinged people could channel that energy into real causes affecting people suffering slavery in the present day, instead of tearing their hair out over a romantic BL story that never even happened because it was unjustly accused, just to prevent weak-minded people from having an aneurysm as a result of seeing the word "slave" used not only in a context that validates their emotions, which are based solely on distorting and misinterpreting reality.
We all know you have a sense of selective equality and justice
kill yourself
It seems someone has felt identified.
you’re an identified racist piece of shit that needs to die
Not really, you're the weird ones using us to validate narratives that distort and devalue real racism.
I'm from latam, we know what we're talking about. In the north of my country, human trafficking is a real problem, as it is in other parts of the world, and it continues to grow.
You're just a little piece of shit looking for validation.
no ones reading this shit either way lmao why would the author breaks their back drawing day and night knowing barely anyone would buy it
You stupid people can't fathom how we can do both.
" chanell this energy" I'm sorry it takes so much of your brain power to write a comment, some of us work, have uni and communist gatherings to attend but I guess you wouldn't know that
Yikes, that says it all. I mean, you're part of the worst kind of first-worlders: those who think they're going to save the world single-handedly with a regime.
and you still need to kill yourself
This is why I miss bato. The comments and replies you get here are fucking stupid and everyone here is a literal child who wants to argue bc they can hide. I’m creole. I wanted this manhwa. I agree with you. There. You’re not racist anymore. Anyone that says otherwise is a pussy ass fat bitch who doesn’t know anyone outside of white skin tones other than their housekeeper. See? I’m adapting well here.
you deserve and can have better stories featuring characters of color than this. maybe then you'd have enough racial self esteem to not make silly replies like this.
booooring, calling other ppl a child while ure throwing a tantrum over gay porn is an interesting choice, theres plenty of great bl getting release everyday. Maybe js log off and start reading legally if u hate this website so much
like lwk idk about yall but im here in asia insensitive topic relating to history, colonialism, slavery etc (and even politics) gets taken very seriously my Korean grandma doesnt even want me to watch anime because theyre japanese
media seriously get boycotted and sometimes there will be no going back for the author if they release anything deemed as “insulting to the nation” or “offensive”. I can obviously see why the author chose to cancel this manwha. seeing yall drop all ur pride and slander ur own people js to defend this slop is genuinely heartbreaking
I am comfy though? And what I DONT like, if anything, is how sometimes they tend to vilify darker skinned people. There’s plenty out there for me to read, I read everything pretty much. Which is why when I’m told not to like something, EVEN THOUGH I DONT BITCH ABOUT WHAT YALL LIKE, I get a lil upset ^_^ Don’t ever speak on my racial self-esteem, you’ve never seen, met, know one of mine, or know what we are. Maybe you’re a little too comfy too? Congrats!
girl are u not the one out here im this ethnicity……. and i want slop that degrade my own people yes!!!!!! pipe ur ass down lmao
Pot calling the kettle black then huh chiiild? Korean grandma won’t “let you” watch anime. You sat there and bitched at every comment too? I wasn’t even talking to you. The rest of us can’t complain but you can? Stfu. You’re Asian in Asia omg sooo sensitive! Bitch I’m not saying I’m one particular race. I’m ALL their races. I was saying that I, me, myself, as a rare occurrence has shown itself in manhwa form, was excited. Wtf did that have to do with you? I thought all yall over there were smart but guess the fuck not.
I can understand being disappointed that you won't get to see a character with a similar background to you in a story. I simply don't understand why expressing that disappointment has to involve portraying and stereotyping the people who raised issues with this story as oversensitive white people with no issues of their own. I only found out about this from other Black people on social media who were also skeptical about how the story would handle the history and racial dynamics of it. simply having characters of color isn't enough. the story context and how those characters are portrayed also matters. if you didn't see an issue with this story, that's your prerogative, but being chill with everything doesn't mean that you're the sole voice of reason either. what makes sensitivity bad? what if other people are sensitive for good reasons, and other people are numb and indifferent for bad reasons?
it's also suspicious to me whenever someone is willing to tokenize themselves as the one person of their group to validate whatever take/position goes against the one held by most or a significant majority of the group they belong to. it can be a profitable position for the one willing to do that because they get to cozy up to the powerful/dominant party, but it comes at the expense of their own community. what do you get from being "one of the good ones (who don't rock the boat and aren't noisy about race)"?
many people raised their concerns and the creator either agreed with the points made, or simply didn't want to deal with continued scrutiny. they could have continued despite the reaction, as many creators do. either way, this creator isn't the champion against the oversensitive mob some of you want them to be. and this isn't the story they needed to release with a burning passion, otherwise they could release it (even for free!) even amidst the outcry, as some people want. either the oversensitive mob made good points that made them reconsider, or the oversensitive mob are better spenders than the racially rough-and-tough and the creator doesn't want to alienate a potential market. one way or another, there's value in the opinions of the oversensitive mob, according to the creator. so what is railing against the oversensitive mob going to do about that, apart from venting your feelings?
and ure sitting here bitching about how u cant read some gay porn anymore I was giving u an example to how serious asian are when it comes to sensitive topics like these if it were ever to happen, and WHY the AUTHOR who is ASIAN understoof immediately that she was WRONG and canceled the manwha. I wasnt complaining about my grandma or the culture i grew up in if it wasnt obvious enough, but YOU sat here slandering ur own ppl for not liking and calling out this racist slop like please stfu and learn how to read, and yes asian people are smart unlike retards that try to twist and warp words like u.
if u are excited for the representation in which ur ppl are slaves in America then go watch a documentary or something
Asia, the continent with a workforce based primarily on the sweat and blood of hyper-exploited children so that people in the United States can have cheap SHIN. Why don't you protest against sweatshops instead of being on this page trying to be the moral ground
genuinely how do u know i dont lmao are u retarded
do you seriously think it takes long to be on this website talking to losers like u How do u know i dont talk about those thing irl?? Unlike u i actually love and care deeply about my culture and where i am from, i will talk about it and i have been, but bitches like u who drop all your pride for some gay porn degrading your own group of people wouldnt understand, so i guess i understand where this projection i coming from, i do hope you get better
I did notice u said u were from some country where slavery is big problem but u still stand with this manwha and wouldve loved it etc… sooooo i guess theres not much talking if u are already at this stage of self hatred, all i was saying to the other girl is asian people actually have pride within themself and these topics get taken very seriously, and I could see why the author went this route
It's not a question of having time or not; it's that you come across as unserious and hypocritical for crying over a BL here.
Human trafficking should be a serious issue everywhere. Trying to compare it to a fictional character who ironically uses the word "slave" in a BL romance is completely inappropriate because you're trivializing it.
and thats why i said to the other girl things like these are taken SERIOUSLY in asia even if its media or fictional, and thats why the author probably took this measure because she is an asian person that grew up in this culture? Like soz i think disrespecting my culture in any way shape or form is bad dafuq and slave was not used ironically please be so fr
The comparison isn't serious! You moron
As if you all don't fuck your workers, Usa have expensive af health care and you guys have been having waves and waves of druggers everywhere because USA is the country that most consumes it! Shut the fuck up honestly
What the hell are you talking about?
So you're assuming that just being from Latin America automatically makes you a drug dealer? I don't know, that sounds pretty racist of you.
Iam talking about USA. I am Brazilian you piece of shit, I am from latam. Read the text again and see how I am talking about USA
You are so stupid you can't read
So why do I give a damn about the United States then?
its essentially the exact same thing i am not comparing actual slavery to this manwha i am comparing the difference in culture between asia (where the author is fucking from) and the other girl, and telling her why is normal the author went this route because in ASIAN culture we actually respect where we come from and do not take disrespect lightly. Please learn how to read
Omg ur weird
That is true. Slavery still exists in some part of Africa. And there are lot of trafficking cases all over the world today. I wish we have this much energy to end it ngl
Communist? Ew dude I’m from Cambodia. At least read up on what communism destroyed my birth country
