one little thing: if we go back to the first chapters, I feel more like the emperor was r-word-ed by the empress using her pheromones and that being why the emperor was so "no, nop" about Etienne (and the suspicious crush he seemed to have for Rishar's dad).

Totally agree. It's not that it isnt redeemable. The author just DOESN'T want it to be redeemable. Like there are scenes where mc is genuinely going through something. And there were so MANY opportunities for mc and ml to have honest to God dialogue. But then the author seems allergic to it so he/she defaults to let's-make-ml-do-ahole-shit-and-mc-gets-flustered-but-chibified in almost EVERY time. Completely normalizes things that are unresolved. The last part was the CLOSEST to any honest dialogue but by that time,i am just so done

When i said i like to watch or read something, it doesn't need the level of complexity like "Dark" (German netflix series) or "three body problems" (sci-fi Chinese novel) type of story.... Sometimes i read/watch "predictable" plot or cliche characters and said "yeah i enjoy it" but doesn't mean it's good GOOD like S-tier good
Beside i think the manhwa u mentioned actually has a solid characterization, yeah the story is indeed fucked up (like that's literally the point) but the characters are not one or two dimensional like how most characters in manhwa these days are...

Spoilers ahead rant
I thought this story had potential at first and the main character is very likeable and enjoyable. The side characters are less important as the story goes on... But the side characters are better and more interesting than the main love interest. I have red stories where the character is psychotic and a red flag in a similar way but this character is done so poorly. And their relationship is awful. Yes, I get that with such a crazy character the relationship would never be healthy but the victim blaming, guilt tripping, and wanting to prevent the mc from living life (not wanting him to go to work, not meeting with friends, etc) isn't as bad as their relationship being painted as "better" than his other toxic exes. The main love interest assaults him, refuses to stop when he's asked to stop, does not care about the bodily harm or bad condition his "relentless railing"(as the mc called it) does to the mc. The flow of the story is off and I read that most people are confused mostly at the beginning but even more than halfway through the story.
I can't recommend this in any way, not even for the art. The beginning was interesting but the more I read the worse it got and it left me feeling uncomfortable and worse. It is never resolved much trauma the mc has and he is still a victim in this toxic relationship. Just because his new lover doesn't beat him he still gaslights him and wrongs him. He got mad at the mc for having other boyfriends after they broke up but he felt no remorse for hooking up with random women (and men? All we know for certain is his ex girl) despite claiming to "only care about and obsessively love the mc" and considering the mc to have cheated/wronged him for seeing other people. Just bad all around. Woojin is completely awful and utterly unlikable. And yet the author makes the mc delude himself into thinking that everything is because of woojin. "Its because of him that Im ok with kissing or bed" "its because of him that im happy" even changing it to woojin apparently being his first kiss which makes no sense since his first kiss was with the boyfriend he caught them which is the entire reason woojin started to pursue him psychically. The story makes it out that the mc was only ever in love with woojin and that the ONLY reason he dated anyone else was to get over him. Which is ridiculous. Despite the ex from the beginning being trash as well, during their time together the mc claimed to love him and be happy. The author is trying to make the mc and woojin relationship seem more romantic but it fails hardcore. The mc could have loved other people but STILL love woojin and it could have still been his most meaningful and strong love, but instead everything revolves around is blamed on mc "only loving woojin".
Woojin is constantly described as crazy even by the main character but despite knowing his flaws- he never once tries to change. And no "just maiming not killing his ex" does not count as him changing his flaws. He literally commints arson and assault. At the end of the story he commints assault AGAIN this time while the person is in a hospital bed. He spares one drunk old man after he gets mad. Then the mc says "he is so kind. It makes me feel more guilty"... as if he didnt literally sabotage his past relationships and beat people. At the end the mc feels guilt for exposing his ex for domestic abuse because he ised to love/date him. Mc has a serious guilt conplex/trauma that is never properly addressed. Instead he is constantly blamed and suffering hardship which makes it even worse. At the start woojin gets mad at mc for avoiding him, at the end he yet again guilts him for supposedly avoiding him, at least he apologizes for getting mad (then lies to the mcs face with no remorse) but even then never once acknowledgement of how awful the things mc went through. He even laughed in his face when the mc first brought up how traumatic the grandfather catching them together was. The only character development woojin gets is 4 chapters before the end and even then it was just being decent and having a proper conversation with the mc. Frustrating and unenjoyable read. I get that most peopoe are reading it for the 18+ scenes but it starts with noncon that leaves the mc in pain so I don't think even that is worth reading this for. Plus woojin is unrealistically big and forces it into the mc without prepping which would have lead to bleeding ir fissure, yea its fiction and all but still is bad imo. Its so off putting and awful. Mc describes it as the "first time he felt like he was going to die while doing it". And continues to describe being intimate with his partner as feeling like he's going to die (begs to stop but woojin never once listens) and passes out almost every time during it, even in the last chapter. Other stories have done large sizes correct. At least prep properly. The ending of the story is SO BAD. Made me regret wasting any time reading any part of this.

ML teasing MC just ruining the overall mood with his as holery (sorry are you a minor? please dont mind the language). ML God complex is what happens when a manhwa's goal is to really ruin my day.
Lol its ok im 27. Yea i didnt want to be too mean because i know mangas are hard to create but this story sucks it really did have potential but it's honestly one of the worst fumbles I've ever read. This manhwa legit traumatized me. Played with my feelings with every chapter but man did it put me on a choke hold for MONTHS! They were so fucken toxic at the beginning. Gave me serious PTSD. It's like my parents divorcing each other all over again.
But this is the type of BL that made all that struggle worth it. The fact that yuta fell first but seunghyun fell harder is the BIG BANDAGE that i needed to heal me from months of agony. And i love that seunghyun's redemption arc is not a short 4 chapter thingy like most BLs but a build-up of his internal struggles, beliefs, and overcoming the stigma of being a yakuza.
And also this is the one BL that gave me somewhat of a rarity in manhwas: a sassy, petty, and hella smart bottom who can go head to head with an equally intimidating and powerful top.

If you have trauma towards SA, physical assault, depression/mental illness, miscarriages, verbal abuse (slutshaming specifically), just off the top of my head, I would not recommend reading it if those are any triggers. Despite these content warnings, it is a good read despite being extremely dark in the beginning.

Im telling you: THERE IS NO REDEMPTION ARC. just wanna save you the trouble coz trust me, nothing frustrates me more than suffeting through all that because youre holding in to hope that he'd be better. Reality is, you will still be dealing with the same crap by the end. It's just one if those stories where ML just give out aura farming vibe on top of being an asshole coz that is basically what he is in this story. He really is a villain with a twisted perception of love. The author intended it to be that way. Im not saying anymore. Glad i could help. I do wish someone warned me. I had to read the novel only to be rewarded with a higher cortisol level. If you want a good redemption arc, i recommend Heavy Rain. The manhwa is already in the chapter 40ish of the novel i think. I guess you still need to marinate that. But the novel is complete along with the side stories.
