Okay so I read the novels and here’s why.
The first reason is that Tae was extremely exhausted, like dead-dead exhausted. He could barely even cry properly and his body was tormented all day. The novel described his exhaustion in depth, how he used up all his might to say what Ilay demanded, and how he felt like a corpse at that moment, with barely any strength left to speak. U see how he struggled saying it the first time? When it was barely audible, Ilay frowned. Tae was terrified that Ilay might continue so he shouted.
BUT the main reason he didn’t say anything was because of the way he felt about Ilay and the situation.
You see how Tae was debating and questioning whether he even liked Ilay and how he thought he was schizophrenic? With the slight hope that he placed in Ilay shattered after this incident, he definitely would want to reconsider saying anything at all. Because to Taeui, what's the point of saying anything to a psycho who did that to him? The guy who even considered killing him even for a moment? Even if he did tell Ilay, there’s no point because it doesn’t undo what Ilay had done to Tae. He meant to tell Ilay before things escalated that far, now that it has escalated beyond far, there’s no point, really.

Tae will end up telling him but only after Ilay said certain things that helped make up Tae’s mind to tell him. I’d be happy to spoil more but reading the novel is wayyy better to understand them and the plot. The sequels are especially good.

Oh that guy will suffer mentally for the majority of the novels. Not in an apology sense but his actions will be paid through sth else. Let me explain.
Essentially, Ilay’s now tied down to his feelings for Tae and will forever pay for it through suffering by gaining his humanity for Tae. He’ll always risk his life to protect Tae too.
U know how he’s supposed to be a inhumane, psycho, emotionless dude who gives no shit about people? And after he met Tae, Ilay suffered by feeling his new feelings TOO vividly and intensely.( Pain, jealousy, confusion…etc that he never felt before). Ilay actually does a lot for Tae. It’s just that...he lacks communication...(¬_¬)
The next chapter, He actually was satisfied with Tae being by his side (He assumed that Tae didn't like him back for YEARS after living together and accepted it) as he thought it was a form of repayment for getting Tae out of the villa. Ilay even went on to say “It might be overwhelming, but pay me one way or another…” meaning that he knows that just being with him is already hard, so he won't ask for more (love). To simplify, he has to live with constant anxiety and insecurity about Tae’s feelings for years on end.
Tae is a trouble magnet so Ilay would constantly have to protect him and get scared the shit out of him when Tae gets himself in trouble.Tae got kidnapped and totured one time (almost died) and with the help of Rahman, Ilay who was panicking so bad desperately got Tae to safety and personally HUNTED DOWN every single one of the kidnappers, tortured, behead them and send it to Tae as a gift every year.he’s still CRAZY is all I can say…
There’s a time where he would make a deal with a close relative he thought he could trust for Tae’s safety just to be betrayed and have cyanide injected into him. The amount could kill s.1 btw) The arabs wanted Tae to get to Jae so they tried to take Tae but they had to get rid of Ilay first. Ilay fought HARD against the drug's effects AND he still managed to beat the shit out of approx 10+ ppl/ kill a bunch ppl to keep Tae who was also drugged safe.
One time Tae almost dies, I’m telling you that psycho was so so worried and anxious during the surgical operation,Tae who was being rushed in the ER said he saw tears on Ilay’s miserable face. “that inhuman guy? Fr?” Was Tae’s reaction. He developed truama and nightmares because of Tae too. He gave Tae all his money and assets too (billions, yes, billions).
I know his actions is absolutely unjustifiable(Tae never excused it either), but this is what making up for things meant for that psycho, Ilay. He can’t say sorry, but....he’s willing to die to protect Tae and would kill himself if Tae dies (Canon btw). (￣ー￣ ) Idk his logic, but okay...

That's what I meant by him not paying in term of your typical apology or getting arrested for his crimes. We’ve have to consider the ways to make Ilay suffer and not in terms of the standard way for average people to suffer but in a sense that would be THE WORST punishment for Ilay.
BUT I do agree that Ilay SHOULDVE HAVE suffered more for his disgusting actions towards other people as well as Taeui, I forgot to mention that previously.
Realistically speaking, Ilay should be arrested honesly, but the environment, the story setting, and the character’s power is what made it so that Ilay wouldn't even be in prison. That's the practically setting of the whole plot. Taking Ilay’s nature/personality into consideration, that inhumane guy wouldn't even feel a thing when getting arrested either nor would torturing him physically do anything. Even killing Ilay doesn't even flinch the guy. Making him suffer using his affection for Tae makes the most sense. Tho, my poor Tae has to suffer too, which is unfair.
So the worst way to punish Ilay is to hold his humanity for Tae against him. What I explain previously was mainly about Ilay suffering in HIS worst possible way not defending the guy. It's not like u can blame Tae for his decisions either. (I can explain u if u want)
I spend my time rereading/ studying them enough to be able to understand each character and can explain all of their action/decisions too without necessarily defending the characters' actions. I don't agree with what happened to Tae and how much Ilay deserve to pay, but I understand why the story is the way it is. Fyi, I don't particularly even like Ilay but I understand his psychology well enough. AND I love my boy Tae so much; he deserves the whole world. Don't get me wrong though; I do, to a certain extent, agree with what u just said.
Yeah I understand! I’m just trying to clarify that Ilay genuinely won’t go through the typical black flag character development (actually it’s atypical regardless of flag colour). Because his development is something that happens indirectly as the story moves along.
Because Ilay’s development is very subtle it can be a hit or miss; and end up being very disappointing to people who expect something special like him apologising or a grovelling/redemption/regret/etc arc
The point is that Ilay did in fact suffer but not in the usual way people expect, so I don't think I misrepresented Ilay’s suffering or anything since I even clarified/specified the type of suffering he will go through and clarify that it’s not the usual sense.
Well, I was and still am pretty pissed off that Ilay never got to properly apologize verbally, honestly speaking. And I do agree that the development is slow-paced and subtle and it’s not a regular apology people would normally want and can be easily missed.

I wish what happened instead is that instead of Hunter going psycho rapey with Yujin after catching him back, he instead imprisons him in his house, with Yujin always rejecting any intimate advances Hunter does. This goes on for a while until eventually they reach the tipping point, and they get into a huge fight, then Hunter tries to force himself on Yujin. And then Yujin reminisces how they were before all of this mess and then he cries and gets angry for Hunter for doing all these things and how different he is now, and so that finally snaps Hunter where he gets even angrier at Yujin and finally completely breaks down emotionally, screaming and crying, telling Yujin how much he hurt him for betraying and abandoning him, that he thought Yujin didn’t love and trust him as much as he thought, that Yujin ruined everything and all that. When Yujin tries to console Hunter, he leaves the room and they don’t see each other for several days. During those days, Yujin thought of what he did and then finally realizes that he did really hurt Hunter a lot. And so from that point on, it’s Yujin who's going to be chasing after Hunter now, who has become colder and more distant to Yujin after their big fight, and etc. Idk man.
