Xinlu proposed the deal willingly and kept his part of the promise, Ilay did too but only to some extent. He didn't exactly put in efforts to keep up his part of the deal

Did you even read the story properly? Yuri started liking Xinlu when Xinlu was already an adult. The first love Yuri had was purely because of Xinlu’s beauty, and his face hadn’t changed even after all those years. He was still just as beautiful, so Yuri immediately remembered him when they met again in Seringe. After saving Xinlu, Yuri never tried to find out how Xinlu was doing. He just went on with his normal life and even had relationships with other people (Anette). You seriously need to read the story properly again.

Nah, that’s because Xinlu didn’t want anyone he considered his to be touched by Ilay. Even if someone other than Ilay had touched Taeui, I don’t think Xinlu would have cared that much. It was all because it was Ilay, the person he hated so much, that he was willing to do what he believed was the way to deal with it.

Xinlu could have easily raped Taeui from the beginning if that was really all he wanted, but as we know, Xinlu always hid his true self because he wanted to be accepted by Taeui. So he couldn’t really show his true self until they met again in Seringe.

It’s different with Yuri, because Yuri already knows every side of Xinlu and still likes him. That’s why Xinlu can truly be himself when he’s with Yuri.

And that's exactly what we see here. It's still valid to call it first love. You just need to understand that love can take many different forms, so don't apply your own understanding of love to what Yuri meant when he called it his "first love". If you still find it weird because Yuri was 25 while Xinlu was 12, that's exactly why POV matters. We get to see how Yuri himself describes those feelings (which you already noticed), and based on what's actually shown in the story, they don't fit the medical criteria or legal definition of pedophilia either.

I don't usually promote reading novels so much, but this is exactly why I think people should read the novel. there's so much detail that gets lost in the transition to art that's critical to understanding the storyline.

Especially in sexual contexts, ambiguity can be very detrimental to reader's understanding of how rape manifests across contexts. We're not talking JUST about fiction, here, we're talking about a significant shift in how we perceive a danger that occurs in reality, that affects many women and men every single fucking day. It is incredibly ignorant to dismiss somebody's valid criticism of romanticized rape, regardless of whether it's prominent in yaois or manhwas in general. I'm not sure why YOU'RE particularly bothered by someone's criticism that isn't targeted at you. There is no personal attack, so why turn it against the other person and state that they're 'bothered and should stop reading.' if anything, the only person who needs to open their eyes is you, because ignorance is not bliss babes
