It's not surprising as being chubby or overweight is less common in Japan than in western countries. Also, even in the west, the most desirable bodies are slimmer. It's only recently that countries like America have started to appreciate different body types and feature them more in media.   reply

I can't really blame the mangaka tho. They also need money for living. In order to have that, they would need to stick to the "mainstream" to compete with other manga instead of sticking to what they know would flop. I mean, you can't earn money if there's no person (who have that kind of preference) who is willing to buy your manga. Right?   1 reply

I think that there is not much chubby manga because Asians are mostly small like if you go to the clothing stores in Japan the clothing will be smaller than American sizes I don't think Asians find larger people nasty or anything it's just since in women it's not very often you come across a larger woman in Asia (japan, korea..etc) so is very rare ......   1 reply

Well when I found the manga and started reading, it was my first time reading a chubby girl is a herione in the manga, well I was not used to it yet and I didn't like that manga at all because the herione didn't lose her weight and still get the hot guy in the end and many people dislike me when I said that in the comment but I can't help it, all m......   reply

I AGREE! I read pochamani which has a chubby female lead character and I think they represented her fairly well. She was first insecure but now she isn't because she feels confident and knows weight isn't everything (not cause she lost any of it). BUT the male lead i didn't like. He was obviously the 'most attractive male' in the school and every g......   3 reply

There are a few chubby shoujo manga and BL manga out there, but not enough. Most chubby girl shoujo manga ive read were like 1) gets abused by a hot man (chubby/fat cinderella was the name of this manga and the hot guy was a D*CK) 2) 'lose weight' which sucks (E.G.Hoppe Ni Himawari (Yaoi) ) 3) AN AWESOME MANGA 4) usually the word 'pochari' can be......   reply

The problem is, you're seeking something that would be very hard to find in general. The Japanese scorn excess fat and obesity, it is seen as unhealthy and the body is treated like a temple. This is shown in the great lengths they go through in order to maximize their potential as a human being; physically and mentally. Koreans are the same in this......   reply

What you say is true. As some of the other answerers pointed out, I feel that American and European comics represent heavier characters more often. Might I suggest the comic series "Jem and the Holograms" Published by IDW comics. It's a rehash of the old TV cartoon from the 80s of the same name. It has the most diverse cast of body types out of an......   reply

Usually the chubby characters are the ones that want to lose weigh or change their appearance. Because they were bullied and lack confidence in themselves. So when someone who they consider is way out of their league wants to date them. They starting doubting them and questioning why. They feel the need to change and get better. You see cute chara......   reply
