i think some of you all are gatekeeping things too much... speaking on this as a chinese person, having "可爱emily (which literally just translates to cute emily!!)," "mochi," and "sakura," isn't hurtful (to me, at the very least, and i doubt it will affect any of the gigantic landmass of asia...), nor racist, nor cultural appropriation or whatev...... 1 reply
I want to ask, is my username offensive? It's Usagi, which means rabbit in Japanese, and I'm not Japanese. I think rabbits are very adorable. I didn't have the intent to offend anyone and I though it was a cute username and I got the idea after watching an anime. reply
as a french person who sees people using it (and the culture) as an aesthetic i get kinda annoyed (but at least im not fetishized for my fucking language/culture), so i imagine if an asian person sees someone fetishizing the language and by proxy their culture/race i can see why it would be kinda pissy so i would just avoid it unless you speak it? ...... 1 reply
I think as long as it is not used to ofend you can use other languages for nicknames in a fan site or manga/manhwa/manhua/comic site thats usually just shows you're interested in a culture/language be it because you find it interesting or cute

So I am korean man (no japanese, sorry), and people use korean as aesthetic too. I see it is nearly the same thing, but I am not bothered. No one here is. We wear english t-shirts and use english letters the same as people do with korean and japanese. As long as no one is racism, we do not care!

Not me, don't care, and I'm Asian, and I know a friend from Japan who wasn't bothered by the "aesthetic" use of their language, so why should anyone here in mangago (assuming that no one is Japanese) be bothered or be overly dramatic about the usage of the language when it's not even theirs to begin with.
