Hmm, while I do agree that most of the popular ones are indeed that same formula, even this app is guilty of recommending them, which also leads new fujoshis to reading this and liking it, which results in recommending it more often, vicious cycle basically

I agree to an extent. I think some authors do fetishize gay couples in Yaoi, but there are still many good reads for you out there. I mean, one of my favorite Yaoi mangas is about two grown men who actually LOOK like men. (The manga is called “Never Good Enough” btw). Rather than focusing on just sex, it ALSO establishes what kind of characters...... 1 reply
Yeah I hate it when the top says stuff like "you feel better than a girl" "I'm gonna make you pregnant"(when it's not a omegaverse) or bullshit like that it's suuuuuuuper annoying... But there are a lot and I mean A LOT of buffy/manly bottoms out there so you shouldn't generalize ╮(￣▽￣)╭ reply
Hmm no? There’s like many different type of yaoi and some focus on sex, some don’t but still have it. Yaoi isn’t just unrealistic heteronormative mlm sex lol but I can understand why you wouldn’t want to read it because more than that, a huge problem yaoi has is consent and legality or very very toxic “love” stories. reply
this is why the genre shonen ai exists, and there are tons more bls that do have queer men in happy relationships that dont focus 100% on sex you just need to look harder 1 reply
I think yaoi has slowly moved away from that trope. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen at all, but at least most of the new series i follow either have both characters be fairly “equal” in the body type, and even if they are not, one half is not drawn super “soft” to resemble a female.

As a queer women who LOVES femininity, I am a bit tired of the shit feminine men in general get. There are PLENTY of BL (both shounen-ai and yaoi) where the guys are both very much masculine. There is a difference between masc/femme "presenting" and being masculine and feminine. Yes, yaoi has its fair share of feminine bottoms, who are masc PRESENT...... reply
