Who is your favorite mangaka and why?
I'm interested in hearing from you guys since there seems to be a lot of debate in comments of different manga, pertaining to the mangaka.
So, I'll go first. Mine would have to be, after a lot of consideration, Harada-sensei.
I know; odd.
The reason I like her so much is not for the dark theme (in fact, I typically avoid dark like the plague), but I can't stay away from her work and she's one of my go-to mangaka when I don't know what to read. Will avoid some of her work? Yes (Nii-chan, comes to mind).
But I think the main reason why love her work so much is that she is best, as far as I've experienced, at expressing just raw, intense emotion. But all in all, this raw energy and emotion is the reason why I love Harada-sensei.
I love Harada. Especially yatamomo. my parents were abusive and momo's story, and the sympathetic but realistic way he was portrayed (as a survivor whose coping mechanisms brought shame and isolation)--that resonated me.
I've read and enjoyed all of Harada's (translated) work but I understand choosing to avoid certain stories. Nii-chan was particul...... 1 reply

Hinohara Meguro
All their works are my favs and the art is just immaculate
Harada-sensei, they address the dark themes they bring in their mangas as they should be and their writing is just great. And they are so good at expressing raw, intense emotions as OP said. Plus their art style goes so well with that.

Hirohiko Araki, not necessarily because of his works but more-so because of what he’s like as a person. I really struggle with putting my admiration for him into words, but I can say he’s literally so fascinating 1 reply
ICHIKAWA KEI THE AUTHOR OF BLUE SKY COMPLEX AND MANY MORE
I honestly love them (idk the gender) so much their art style is so unique and beautiful imo, and the stories they write are always never filled with much drama and they tend to have mostly healthy somewhat realistic relationships!
