What do yall think about the 2023 adaption to Ariel? I know it’s very late after the movie was released but I just thought of it.
I honestly hate it, not because they made her black. Idc if they made her blue or whatnot but I just hate that they changed it. I know it’s all about money in the end. I mean I know a lot of people don’t mind it but if it didn’t matter, why change the race instead of just making new characters.

Honestly, all these remakes Disney is making is just to make a bunch of merchandise from beloved movies (Frozen made more money from the merch than the movie). However I believe they’re doing something bigger which is retaining the IP of these old movies. I refused to watch DEATH NOTE (Netflix, 2017) with the very principle that the races of BOTH main characters are black-and whitewashed, even though I love the anime and watched older LIVEACTION versions.

The answer is money. They don't want much risk. Why do you think they keep making remakes, sequels, book adaptations, reboots and spinoffs and only rarely try to make something new? I wouldn’t care if they changed yo the characters as long as they were more díverse. The thing is that they’re not. They aren’t making previously white-looking characters into Asians, Hispanics or Middle Eastern, they’re only switching from white to black.
