most people in this sort of state dont want to die, they just want the pain and suffering that their experiencing to end & they see death as their only escape.

I do think suicide is selfish (according to the definition). You don't take in consideration for the people that will miss you (even if you think there aren't anyone that will miss you, trust me there ARE) and the people who will have to clean up the body.

Sure, it can be selfish from a literal definition. I also think an argument could be made that it's selfish against yourself.
