Should straight men be allowed to play roles of queer characters?
As always when a new bl series begins trending the topic whether it's fair or not for straight men to get the roles of gay characters gets brought up. Given now that heated rivalry has been out people have been attacking the actors with claims of "Queer baiting" and that an openly gay man should've gotten the role rather than the current actors.
sorry why the fuck do we care if they fuck boys or if they fuck girls OR if they even like to fuck irl? you don't have to know cus they're not gonna fuck you anyway so zip it and just watch the goddamn show.
queerbaiting can't be applied to REAL PEOPLE esp actors bc it's almost like it's their job like hey SURPRISEEEE! THEY ACT! plus, they don't o...... 1 reply
My stance is that it's acting. Saying it's queerbaiting doesn't make sense because it's not a real story, they're literally being paid to pretend. 1 reply
Yes (although it would be nice to have more queer actors)
This discourse is very parasocial in the respect that people believe they are entitled to celebrities sexuality and personal life.

I mean it’s been a thing since long before so it’s alright. I mean Jonathan Bailey has straight roles like Anthony Bridgerton and Fiyero from wicked and no queer or straight ppl are complaining other than he is (sadly) not for the girlies so it’s fine. It’s acting tho, like do we need a real psycho killer to be casted as one? Acting is acti...... 2 reply
It’s called acting.
You’re pretending to be something you’re not.
Back in Shakespeare’s day, men played woman’s roles, kabuki in Japan is performed by males, etc.
Actors are supposed to make you believe in their role, so what they are r who they like in real life should have no bearing. reply
yes but it shouldnt take away from queer actors getting their parts. it’s complicated and the topic that queer actors are undercasted in favour of their more socially acceptable non-queer peers should be added to this conversation
a role is a role but discrimination also exists 1 reply
Yes, cause why not? Acting is about portraying someone different from yourself. While representation matters, an actor’s sexuality shouldn’t determine whether they’re allowed to take on a role. They’re actors, their profession is acting, and their personal lives or sexual preferences have nothing to do with their careers. That's what i belie...... reply
