is korean BL becoming more boring?
i usually find new things to read by scrolling through the latest update page of this website, but recently i feel like ive been sifting through grains of sand for hours to find one slightly good or above average manhwa. korean manhwa oftentimes isnt that high quality because of the sheer output that publishing companies shit out, but nowadays i feel like its becoming worse. the same trendy types of stories that have become the norm for action/straight romance stories are being pushed out with BL.
every manhwa starts with a rape scene and has a redflag top that takes advantage of the bottom for like 80% of the series and im sick of reading the same plot with the same boring personalities every time i press on something new. brutal sex scenes and absolutely no stakes for anyone except the usually impoverished/abused main character bottom.
the crazy thing is that i havent noticed this really occuring as rapidly with jp or cn BL. mostly just korea because again, the industry for manhwa there is HUGEE and fast.
the latest manhwa ive picked up and have genuinely been enjoying is master-peace and that brought me back to like 2015-2020 era BL where good (or even just unique) storylines came before porn.
Youre right but it might also be a maturity thing. I used to find good manhwas so easily but now that I'm older and considerably more woke I'm realising the shit I thought was good, is slop. I dunno 3 reply
There are some good new ones but I agree that most of korean BLs (or manhwas in general) are just copy paste You really have to dig through the trash to find a gem. If you can, try reading manga or manhua, or even bl novels. I try to explore different kinds of medias to have a wider range of peak I can find and read. It's also best to find/ask re...... 1 reply
try finding a few people on here with similar tastes, and read what they're reading. find a few good lists. also, venture out to mangas (bl mangas have been there longer than manhwas so there's more volume of works, both bad and amazingly good)

Nah, you're right. While there are still some good ones, they're kinda rare. Not just BL, but action and straight romance (espesially transmigration/historical straight romance).
You know when "Who Made Me A Princess" got popular, more daughter-father emperor/king/duke etc. starts popping up.

It's like that for years already to be honest, the point is that sex and angst sells, and in this scroll through webtoon structure visuality is the most important for many, look that mostly readers are more focused on the fact that character is hot, not who he is, whenever a new side character shows up majority of readers right away begs for some s...... 2 reply
It's not necessarily the country tbh like it's overall the trends in romance right now. Which hear me out on this one cause I'm gonna talk about society. It's a long rant.

Omgg frrrr like I have been reading bl for 7 years and though there are some hidden gems they are so hard to find and now after 7 years I am losing interest in bl manhwa cause all of them are just so toxic and just the same ugh reply
I haven't read a lot of the popular manhwas because of this. Always the same old bullshit in most of them. I do end up finding gold every once in a while so that's alright. The market is always gonna be full of unsavoury works because they cater to majority of the money spending readers' interests ig. reply
We live at the golden times of Korean webtoons. Just look at what we had 10 years ago. The art was ugly. Now almost every webtoon is a quality thing of art. And about the plot.. plot was always a rare thing, nothing changed. 1 reply
