why do you think there's so much rape in yaoi?
i personally do not understand why there's so much rape in yaoi. and it's not a recent thing either. alot of older yaoi(finder series, gravitation, dakaichi, etc) have rape in it. and some of the older resident fujoshis still talk about those in nostalgic way, even though they know it did have rape and SA and other problematic elements in it. all the popular yaoi have mostly been filled with rape, no matter the time. why do you think this normalisation of SA comes from? if yaoi is mostly catered to women, doesn't it make more sense that women would feel negatively about rape in stories since women are victims of such crimes irl more than men? so what could be the possible reasons? is this some kind of sick rape revenge mentality? or is it a sick fetish of wanting to rape men if they were a man? it's something that feels so misogynist even though i cant put down a finger where. i want to know this from a person who's been a "resident fujoshi/fudanshi" and was in the yaoi genre early on (late 00s or early 10s maybe?) I have been in the BL community since 2018-19 and rape is something i have never understood. i personally don't read yuri this much, but overall yuri doesn't have this much normalisation of rape (as much as i have seen atleast). that doesn't mean yuri genre doesn't have problematic stories, it just isn't as mainstream to have a rape scene in yuri. so why do you think yaoi has so much rape and SA? what could be the reason behind it?
something something, how gender, sexuality, and the concept of sex itself are constructed under heterosexuality -> general rape culture -> kink and sexual fantasies as a coping/processing method/something people are interested in or fascinated by -> the prevalence of rape and dominance/submission dynamics in romance/erotica -> prevalence of rape in...... 1 reply
I think everyone already answered this question very well, but I wanted to mention the absolute sexual torturing of some bottoms. Like it’s not even romanticized sometimes. They’re literally being tortured and even become unwell. I’ve read the older BL, but nothing like these. I cried reading a spoiler for a “toxic romance” because it was...... reply
1.one because the authors are sick fetishist
2. they are bad writers that just want to rush into a sex scene
3. Japan has a really bad rape culture that go's wayyyy back that includes not just attacking women 1 reply
bc a lot of ppl subconsciously feel guilty to enjoy or even have sex, couple it with projecting to the mc and you get "guilt-free" reader enjoyment, cuz if the mc is forced to have sex, it's not their fault it's happening, they can't be blamed for it
so, 1) it's the only way to remove guilt without actually changing your own beliefs or healing you...... reply
I think there was a study that because women face this SA culture so often, the coping mechanism is that if you experience the event of SA in a more pleasurable way than is realistic (as in reading stories where SA is happening but its romantic and overall happy ending), they are able to overcome/rewrite the trauma in their head.
So tldr SA bad, s...... reply
this isnt just one genere issue, its in all kind of media , and yuri absolutly has problematic themes lol theres many reasons as to why it could be , for some its a kink, for others its therapeutic , some want to explore dark themes in a safe enviroment reply
I think its because they can't just be gay. If you notice a lot of the times its "Im not gay, oh wait being raped was fun so I'm gay" type of bs. reply
Popular —> more stories —> more probably to end up reading something containing rape.
Also in more “green flag” stuff they don’t put any sex scenes, so there’s a lack of an healthy sex dynamic. reply
Shock factor. Thrill factor but also can be a negative depending on the reader of course. Violence sells too. Draws out big emotions from readers. Also can move the plot along, maybe resulting in revenge theme or ? etc to fuel the story further. Triggers possible growth development for characters who start as scumbags and become greener and po...... reply
