Hello, please influence me.
I have no current plans in what to take for college once I graduate highschool.
This is my first time posting a question so please bare with me! I'm currently a senior who's about to graduate highschool. My classmates are already planning to take entry exams to prestigious university, go to their dream college, etc.. that aligns with their passion, career, and whatnot. I don't have any of that (or at least I think so) :(
I'd say I'm pretty gifted ever since I was a child, but my performances, in terms of talent and grade, quickly decline as I grew up probably due to burnout and heavy expectations from my parents— did I mentioned I'm Asian? That would quickly check out lol
Anyways, due to that, I'm currently panicking because I don't know what to major in college, or if I'm even going to college and finish my education. I have a bad mindset of "I want to quickly be done with this by not doing anything" and "I want to work less but earn more money" which led to me having a very bad habit of procrastinating. I barely survived my highschool days if I'm being fr.
And with that, with a quick dumb Google search, peer/family influence can help for me to decide what I should partake in life— Someone already told me that I shouldn't study 4 years off of something I'd regret. But dw chat, I'm a picky one, so I'd probably choose a career out of convenience. It might feel half-hearted.. But I'd rather me being depressed about having a job rather than having no job at all.
As a fellow burnout , i hope you're doing well :')
My advice , you don't hv to go to college right away . Find a job for a few months or a year , until you can atleast find anything you actually want to pursue . bcs from experience , diving blindly into a college major will get you nowhere . If even after a year or two you cant decide i suggest d...... reply
Go to college. You'd find that almost nobody likes what they're doing. They're all in the same mess as you. Including those who have a dream. For example, my cousin studied tourism, it is her dream to be a flight attendant, but she worked as a receptionist then become a manager. (Her life suits her well. She's close with her parents, travel frequen...... reply
do you have to go to university right away? i have always thought it's better for people to take some time to go out and experience the world and learn about themselves and what they do and don't like before starting a degree. it's a lot of money to spend on something you're not sure about. but if you have to go, just pick something that sounds kin...... 1 reply
Oh yikes that sounds familiar. I was pretty much the same way, but I completed college without knowing what I wanted to do with my life. I applied kinda halfheartedly to an entry level job that I know I was going to get (I had experience in a similar field), but hey I have a job even if the pay is low and everyone says it's below my education level...... 1 reply
if youre not sure what you like, eliminate the stuff you definitely dont want in life. if youre still unsure and if youre okay with numbers, do accounting thats what i did lol. or take a gap year and try and figure what you want out of life, build some experience/knowledge in that field then reapply for uni reply
I’m somewhat similar so I’m doing paralegal studies—two year associates and then law. It’s relatively easy; just a lot of memorization and problem solving necessary for law.
Though imo, I think you should do nursing. I know a lot of people that do nursing and it’s easy however the hours they have to work (on the job training) without a ...... reply
I think AI spreading as quickly as it is, think of a career that won’t be too impacted by it or that you can work alongside it, because there will be no point in forcing yourself through 4 years of a career you don’t care for only to graduate with no prospects due to AI prevalence.
Other than that, I don’t know what else to say, only, maybe,...... reply
Hope you can be well! English is not my first language but i feel you so much and want to help
I know how scary it is to be a senior and not knowing what you want to do for life and feel pressured cuz I've been there. But you know what helped me? Watching youtube videos about majors! There are a lot of people talking about their majors, showing th...... reply
