why do you think girls love yaoi?
I have been a bl/yaoi fan for years, its one of my favorite hobbies to read stuff here and on ao3 about my fav ships and sometimes when i get fixated on a bl/ship it consumes my whole mind.
My question is why does that happen? i have some observations but i would love tp hear yall and maybe have a discussion - straight romance is too stereotypical - you kinda always know what will the characters do how they will react. its like there is a model female character and a model male character and the characters dont ever develop past the sterotype. with mlm there is so much more variety about the relationships, without being stereotypical - when i read bl i am purely an observer and enjoyer. when there isnt a character of my gender in the story i dont subconsciously try to 'relate' to them or compare my decisions with theirs. when there is a girl love interest i am always like wait i wouldnt do that, why would she do that and etc - basically not putting myself in the shoes of the character allows me to fully enter the fantasy - kinda surface level but as a straight girl its nice to see hot guys making out naked lol - seeing men express emotions, vulnerability by not being confined to the strong straight male love interest. - maybe controversial but there is something taboo about it which makes it more appealing - i guess a lot of the yaoi fans (me included) dont talk about it with irl friends and keep it lowkey. when you are done with your day, with dealing with people and so on you get to have your special yaoi time - makes it even more exciting
so that is what i can think of now pls tell me what do you think

this video by "bazazilio" is what i personally found the most relatable and accurate of why women enjoy yaoi. all of her videos are great, thought provoking and informative. reply
Honestly, that's how I mostly feel about it. As a women, I find bl amazing for many reasons.
1. Because straight romances tend to be stereotypical and I'm constantly criticizing the portrayal of the female lead (mainly comparing them to myself). I try not to do this so much because these characters aren't me and they are allowed to be different fro...... 1 reply
Hardcore yaoi smut scenes plus a romance story usually filled with angst, tension and crazy shit. :) What's not to get off on from this if ya like it? Fantasy yaoi land is an exciting great fun place, I recommend it to anyone but if one is saying gals like it more, cool, no deep meaning opinion on why but hardcore sexy smut scenes and questiona...... reply
If we're talking straight women, well, they're straight, yaoi is a genre centred around men, a gender they're attracted to, and considering all the men in yaoi are hot, they're gonna read more and more of it, its like with straight men, Yuri is genre full of women, they're attracted to women, they're gonna enjoy reading about hot women getting toge...... 1 reply
Because I love seeing men cry and blush alot and show their emotions like a normal person. Also think it isn't suffocating to see men look at another man for their sexual desires instead of women which generally just gives me a sense of comfort. It's also related to why I like yuri, both the women are on equal ground and it's just so lovely and not...... reply
Well, I can’t really speak for other girls but personally.. I did originally enjoy straight ships and hetero romance comics(sometimes) but then I got a friend who was into gay ships and I basically got indoctrinated.. I also was never really a fan of.. heroines, and typically didn’t like female characters as much, so when I figured I could just...... reply
It is only "taboo" because society has made it so. And society is ruled by straight white men and closeted white men.
When you become an older woman who has more important shit to worry about, you understand that what people think about your reading choices is not worth suppressing yourself over. Your kink, your sexual preferences (in a non pedo w...... reply
genuinely, i think its a projection of some female readers onto male characters. seeing heterosexual relationships in media is the norm and as females, we could have a couple of guesses to where the relationship would be going and how it would end; plus women have been objectified for forever, so it could throw us off.
if, however, we project som...... 1 reply
